With only three days left i started thinking about how FAWM will soon be over and the interaction and camaraderie that comes with it will end as well, at least until next year. But everyone (including myself) will go back to their lives, other hobbies and… well, I guess it’s part of what makes FAWM what it is, you know sort of ephemeral.
And so came this song. Not the most intricate of lyrics, maybe even a little juvenile, but I think I'll put it into the writing-down-feelings file.
Despite not getting 14 songs finished, I'd call this year’s FAWM a win. I mean… there are a couple of my songs from this FAWM I really, really like. And I pushed myself in directions I never would have considered had it not been for FAWM. I made some new FAWM friends (lookin’ at you Caitlin, Jil and Jesse) which… c’mon! FAWM friends… ammiright? Got to see familiar names from last year (Leah! Alyx! Cody!) And… a familiar name from last year has turned into a budding friendship.
So yeah... FAWM this year was a win for me.
Thank you @burrsettles for this site and the rest of the FAWM community for making this second time another fun year. I’m gonna miss y’all.
I don’t want to dwell on this ending
I’m more a glass half full kinda person
I’d rather close my eyes
And think fondly of what we had
In this short time
I wouldn’t trade what we had for the world
or a thousand pure gold coins
Or a special kind of power
That lets me fly upon the wind like birds
But I can tell
it’s comin’ soon
It’s time to say goodbye
It’s always hard to let go
It’s time to say goodbye
please know that I’ll miss you
I'll miss you
You've given me a gift in your friendship
no words describe my heart’s happiness
Beautiful as the voices of angels
Hope I've given something nearly as close.
But I can tell
it's coming soon
It’s time to say goodbye
It’s always hard to let go
It’s hard to say goodbye
please know that I’ll miss you

You have such a warm smoky tone to your voice, very pleasant and mystical to listen to... Lyrics manage to portray the necessity of letting go very well, despite it being written the end of fawm in mind it can apply on a more universal scale too :)

Dig the funky rhythmic guitar line. Love the premise of an ending... applying to the end of FAWM but more broadly can be applied to a relationship. I almost always write a goodbye song at the end also.

The lyrics and performance are amazing! There's a lot of emotion in the delivery :) beautiful

There is a cool vocal doubling effect in this (not sure if it is two vocal tracks or an effect). Whatever it is, I like how it turned out. I like the strumming pattern of the chords. Very percussive and upbeat.
I kind of like the ephemeral nature of FAWM. It's a bummer to see the site go away, but cool to come back to familiar sounds/people a year later. Hope to see you next year!

NIce! I really like the ambiguity of the lyrics -- is the song about an old friendship that one has outgrown, or is the person being told goodbye your old self -- the person you used to be. No need to answer, I love lyrical ambiguity! And the breezy, up-tempo chord rhythm, with that tangy minor seventh chord works really well.

I could imagine this sitting in some corner of a bar in very late night and staring my pint.
Moodsy. Very moodsy.

Awww, Wren, you got me right in the feeelings <3 Love the bittersweet optimism of this song- yes, there'll be next year, but for now it's over, winding down, and that's kind of what makes it so special. It's been wonderful hearing your new songs this year, and being silly with you on the forums. We'll keep in touch the rest of the year but for now, this special place must fade back into the ephemeral. Cheers to another wonderful year!
