Feb 2022 rock guitar crunchy guitars
Sixth and final for FAWM 2022 going out with a (head)bang! This one is about the Dunning-Kruger Effect (DKE). A quick Google search should provide a basic understanding of this cognitive bias. To sum it up I quote Charles Darwin: "Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge." You could just as easily think of it as the Dunder Mifflin effect.
I wanted to take a recent amp acquisition for a spin. I recently added a Johnson Amplification Millennium Stereo 250 head (JM250) to my Johnson collection. I already own a Marquis JM60, JT50 Mirage, and a J-Station as well as 2 J8 foot controllers. I also recently received a J12 foot controller for the JM250 (purchased on Reverb from Russia no less) and wanted to make sure it worked as described (it works perfectly and is in near mint condition).
I used the Les Paul Tribute and dialed in a Matchless DC 30 combo on the JM250 for the main rhythm and lead. Yeah, that will work! I used another setting with an unknown amp model and auto wah for the other guitar part all through the Johnson JM60 cabinet and mic'd with a good old Shure SM57.
Addictive Drums again used for the click - Black Velvet kit. Bass was a Fender Squire Jazz Bass recorded direct. Guitar parts and bass went through the Warm Audio WA273 preamp into the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 interface. Usual vocal chain and recorded, mixed, and mastered in Reaper with MP3 rendered with Audacity.
Turn it up!
Verse 1
Unskilled and unaware
Living life without a care
Not knowing what they do not know
And unafraid to tell you so
Pre Chorus
Why is it that the wise
Lack confidence in their ability
While those fools who disguise
Their Ignorance
Overestimate their stability
Chorus
DKE
Hey that's not me
Verse 2
Unknowing and unseeking
Living just for pleasure seeking
Not caring what's left out
They've got this covered not a doubt
Pre Chorus
Chorus
Bridge
Rising to the top
Big fish in a shallow pool
No real way to stop a king
Who doesn't know that he's a fool
Pre Chorus
Chorus

The band - good rocking fun! The subject - timely and timeless. "Hey that's not me" is an awesome hook line!

Oh my this is so precise! I just love that biting guitar and how the vocals work with the song. Really cool song and really sad subject. I think about it often and run into the same dead end that I always do....How do we counter that?!?! Wow. Great song!

What a tight rock song with awesome guitar and a pointed message in the lyrics. Well done!

I couldn't resist the tags. Or the fact that this is about the Dunning-Kruger Effect, a thing that explains much of where we are as a species these days. That chorus is *painfully* spot-on.
