Feb 2022 rock indie folk spacebees sorta-mystery
Wrote this on 2/5 but didn't like a couple lines and put it aside to record later. Now I realize it's because my bag of fawm-tricks hadn't been splattered all over the floor and walls yet. Consider that remedied. Also, mixing? Gosh, what's that, it sounds intriguing.... (slight mix revision 3/1)
Thanks for lending your ears, you've achieved honorary space bee's knees status.
The launch went fine
No one lost. Their. Minds.
Commander, pilot, and some science officers
Had not yet hotted up
In our phallic coffee cup
We left the atmosphere, and ground control in Houston cheered
By day 13
Our little hive. Of. Space. Bees.
The blackness pushing in and we were pushing on
Our close proximity
Familiarity
As thick as astro-thieves, with stars to steal
Then that thing happened that has never yet been explained
Overwrote mem’ries and scrambled up parts of our brains
They call it contact, I call it what the---
Help me now I’m turning, burning, turning inside out
We whirled around
No one made. A. Sound.
The G’s were pushing our own teeth against our eyes
A sense of shame
Of the unnamed
Hungry for gravity and homemade shepherd’s pie
Then that thing happened that will never yet be explained
Overwrote mem’ries and forfeited parts of our brains
They call it contact, I call it what the—
Falling now, I’m turning, burning, turning inside out
If it walks like a duck and it talks like a game show emcee
Sings like a siren and smells like a cinnamon tree
They call it contact, I call it what the—
Shut up now, I’m turning, burning from the inside out
We landed fine.
Having lost. Our. Minds.
Jell-O filled helmets in our jumpsuits, chalky white
Madness disguised
Look into my eyes
We couldn’t wait to do it all again, or try
Then that thing happened...

I feel this really needs a video to go with it! A very cheesy video with flying toasters and rubber aliens....

@johncrossman This is soooo good man. Love the cadence of your lyrics & phrasing. Love that you don't explain too much about the thing that happened, leaving the audience to imagine the worst! :)

Very well done. Well played, as they say!

Nice clean mix here, very pro, oh oooh oh. Enjoyed the klaxxon effect. Enjoyed the harmonies in this, as well as the space bee metaphor. Very lighthearted and funny story, cutting off the swears with similar words, clever. Also enjoyed the prog change in the chorus. Great story arc song.

Hmmm, cryptic. But completely enjoyable : ) Thanks for the ride!

I'm getting Jonathan Coulten vibes off this, very fun. Seems like we can count on you for a fun and quirky space-themed song.

Very nice fun pop rock song. I like the multi-tracking of the vocals and the instrumentation is well done. Lyrics are clever and well written.

Mysterious shenanigans in outer space, in a rendition that gleefully throws absolutely everything to hand at it to see what sticks and if anything drops off, the song just picks it up and runs with it. This is an absolute hoot. Simon and Garfunkel join They Might Be Giants and start doing movie soundtracks? I'm in.

Crazy story. Well performed in such a way that it kind of makes sense. Fun stuff.

Quite the concoction, John! This was ambitious but I think you pulled it off with all sort of neat tricks along the way.

I LIKE the mix here, it sounds perfect to me. Lyrics definitely took me on a trip. If it walks like a duck and it talks like a game show emcee ha that is great stuff. Enjoyed the listen.
