Feb 2022 folk children life-lessons
This is indeed a children's song and well worth exposing them to it.

Reginald Bate
Aged seventy-eight
Went down to the grocery
And purchased his first ever lightbulb
That was going to last longer than he
Jonathan Klein
Aged seventy-nine
Went down to the mall by the grocer
And bought the red tie in the photo
On the front of his funeral brochure
And on that same Sunday, I had a lie-in
In this house I bought and will probably die in
Billy Manchu
Aged eighty and two
Went down to the store for a spade
And he planted a tree in his garden
For his grandkids to sit in the shade

This has an Albert's feel about it, in the way that it sounds Victorian, while perverting the values the Victorians held dear. I like the final positive verse.

Oh, what fun. Love the death theme and then the turn at the end. It feels like kids who love the Series of Unfortunate Events would love this song.

Very strong bouncy tune and a carefully crafted rhyming scheme. A lovely opener for Act II.
