Feb 2022 80s pop electronic electropop synthpop vocals
Figured I'd do one more. Why not?!
I recently watched an interview with Tom Petty and he was asked what he thought of modern music. He said something like, "I can't keep up with who's famous." I thought, "That's a great song title." So I wrote it down as a possible song for FAWM.
This is a FAWM rush job. I wrote, recorded, and mixed all of this today. The vocals were especially rushed.
I know the opening synth riff is similar to the 80's jam by Exposé, "Point of No Return." But it's still different. I channeled that whole song to close out a very productive FAWM.
Verse 1
I’m having lunch with a friend
He loves playing video games
He sees a gamer I don’t know
But millions know his name
I read a headline that says
TikTok house shuts down
Some kids I’ve never seen
With millions in their account
Chorus
Can’t keep
Can’t can’t keep up
With who’s famous now
Verse 2
I don’t know who you are
Where your influence goes
Pop culture split into
Screens around the globe
Old Andy said we’d get
Fifteen minutes of fame
Seems like with each day it is
A fifteen second phase

Catchy title. Very apt for today's world. Love the 80s disco vibe. Clever lyrics

I love Expose...I saw them in concert, so this song had me from the get-go. The lyrics hit home...at times, social media makes me dizzy. And I wonder how important it is to keep up so I don’t get too out of touch. I might like this song too much.

I clicked on this because I can so relate to the title. And what a delicious surprise it was to listen to! I love the almost humorous juxtaposition between irresistibly bouncy '80s pop and earnest lament over the pace and direction of pop culture in modern times. Well-played, indeed, in every sense!
