I was reading about early blues songs and came across "Trouble In Mind" with the line "sun's gonna shine in my backdoor someday". That led me to thinking about Willie Dixon's "Backdoor Man" and how the two might relate.
(My health has been crap this month, so no demo yet…but I wanted to prove I could post something.)
I always leave the backdoor open
With a dim overhead light
For times you pick to stop by
And need a chicken dinner in the middle of the night
You're not my promised sunshine
And you’re not my troubles gone
But you’re enough to make me let another train
Keep rolling on.
I hear three shots just after midnight
Then you're standing by my side
You say, "Quick, call the doctor.
There's women in this town who'd choose to follow if I died."
You're not my promised sunshine
And you’re not my troubles gone
But you’re enough to make me let another train
Keep rolling on.
You got it right, the men know nothing
And the women understand
But pride stops you from seeing
You’re not the first or last one to be called "the backdoor man".
You're not my promised sunshine
And you’re not my troubles gone
But you’re enough to make me let another train
Keep rolling on.

There's got to be a blues melody to attach to this.

Wow! These are some great lyrics. Perfect fodder for a winning blues melody. I'd love to hear them sung. Please let me know if you update this song with a recording of it here on FAWM.
