The staggering cost of modern age
Illuminates my sullen face
Mirror of the grotesque
When did I become this wreck?
Every picture scandalized
Makes me one of a lesser kind
I lose every shred of pride
With all my flaws intensified
I am a man of substance
I'm your heavy cross to bear
I hear your sweet derision
And I suffer in your care
I'm not the one who's keeping score
Image of the abhorred
Abased before the court
I don't deserve to be adored
In the shadow of this year's model
Everything seems so colossal
Makes me wanna resort to gore
Maybe they would like me more
I am a man of substance
I'm your heavy cross to bear
I hear your sweet derision
And I suffer in your care
Topic of your conversation
Imperfect in my presentation
Slowly warps my innervision
Til I'm starving for your absolution
When finally the bones shine through
Will I be good enough for you
Perfect portrait of conformity
You only love a lesser me
I am a man of substance
I'm your heavy cross to bear
I hear your sweet derision
And I suffer in your care

Now this is an intriguing lyric and i wonder (looking at some of our local billionaires) whether something like this is going through their man-of-substance minds.
