Feb 2022 s022822a skirmish band cats
I finished this skirmish on time (was almost late for work) but for some reason, I really didn't like it. Like, I felt bad about making it. I almost deleted it.
On second listen, I have no idea why. Heh.
Skirmish peopleāI'm coming back for comments but at the moment I'm making a mad cram to get to 14 tonight.
edit: this is the light hearted antithesis to the first song I posted this year.
let's start a band, it'll be grand
we can play in your mom's basement
can't carry a tune but it's something we can do
why learn music theory, I got something better
hand me a pen and the lighter
we're gonna light up this furnace room
rock every afternoon
after school
let's do the talent show
we'll do Bulls on Parade
ask your mom if she can drop us off at the mall
Josie works at Hot Topic
I told her you play guitar
we're gonna light up with her after work
and go skate the curb
after school

This is just makes me grin from ear to ear. The details are different, but it totally takes me back to being in a band when I was in school. Favourite bit? The middle 8. Chordwise and with the ba-ba-bas it's got a real Ben Folds Five vibe to it, that I bloody love. Definitely a keeper.

Yes. Don't be deleting stuff like this. I think a thing that really works here is the ascending line imbedded in the chords; goes so well with the highschooler "Let's! Are we gonna?? I will if you will! C'MON!"

"We can play in your mom's basement". There's a lot of 'yeah, we can rock and feel free in the way we want to play in the band, it's all going to be great' in it. Making plans and doing stuff together with like-minded folks and feel excitement about that. I really like this!

Ah, how so many of the great ones started out, in mom's basement. Don't know if that still happens, but it did. This is a fun one, it brings back memories, and has a nice rockin' sound. I really like it. Glad you didn't delete, that's for sure!!

Oh, the nostalgia. So many good lines, from "Why learn music theory, I got something better" to "Josie works at Hot Topic, I told her you play guitar." Even the rhythm and chord progression has an early 00's feel. Fun and funny, pure and simple.
