A busy weekend gave zero time for this. But cracked this out today.
This is about watching my mother age and deteriorate as she cares for my terminal father and just constantly amazed at how/why either of them persist.
This is just what's in there. I started this writing a song about never wanting to hear another person say "well at least it will give you something to write about"... and then this just happened.
And It's not exactly a 4 chord loop but the prompt kind of helped me give myself permission for this.
Her skin
Used to be so thick
Now I can watch the stress flow in
Now I can watch the stress flow
A cog in the wheel of service - all for applause at your service
But for what
Resistant
Is one way to see it
It could be said she never checked her ship
Taking it for granted because she made her deal with him
You can’t pour from an empty cup - swear it’s not poison if you care for the cup
Scratches in the well
Scratches in the well
Conceit is just as well
From inside your faith tastes like doubt
But maybe the release you were promised is to take the out

This is powerful. Great writing on all levels. Also want to give you a hug after listening to it.
