the song was inspired by opening my fridge and seeing that we didn't have much in to eat... but did have a load of condiments. A lot. Loads of bottles of sauce littering the bottom shelf. So I used that as a starting point and a kind of metaphor for normal everyday life.
My house isn't full of arguments, I just liked the rhyme and the juxtaposition of items and emotion. It's something I would probably have tried a bit harder with throughout the song and I think I'll come back and rewrite some of the words at some point in the future.
The song was begun towards the middle of the month and other songs took priority until it hadn't been recorded at the end of Feb and sat on the slab for a bit while we took a breather.
Anyway I've chucked a load of stuff on her, particularly on the bridge, maye too much? I'm not sure you can make much out, much I wanted the fullness of the song to echo the full house (or fridge I suppose), filling up with stuff collected throughout life.
I'm not a clear the clutter person, a clean living minimalist. I think it's strange they attempt to brand people as hoarders to disguise their own mental illness and need to throw away their past :) that said, sometimes it is calming to be somewhere almost empty so it really depends when you catch me.
A fridge full of condiments,
In a house full of arguments,
A cupboard crammed with things we lost
Waiting to be found
A bag full of old cassettes
Kept stashed underneath the bed
A drawer full of new postcards
That never got sent
So let me tell you
These are the things that track
our growth in fact
That become our glue
This is the stuff of life
keep you satisfied
keep you whole
A shelf full of ornaments
For visitors to compliment
So let's build a monument
To the people we are
So why don't I remind you
These are the things that track
our growth in fact
That become our glue
This is the stuff of life
keep you satisfied
keep you whole
Condiments and arguments and old cassettes and new regrets and ornamants and compliments
Forever
A box full of old reciepts
fading with memory
a fridge full of condiments
in a house filled with love

Mmm, with the first 2 lines, this paints such an interesting picture. I love this. How all these little evidences of life constellate and paint a picture of a family. Nice track!
