Another co-write with Shane. He had this great hook and we finished the lyrics and song together, I made the demo and put instruments/vocals on there!
Verse 1
Mom learned of consequence in Harlan
Just outside the Cumberland plains
She never thought she’d go farther
Well she did but the feeling still remains
All the men she met were miners
Digging for a fortune in coal
Late July in grandma's diner
Mom met a man with a heart of gold
PC:
Seems like yesterday, took what I could catch
Like a hurricane, breaking down the latch
Time is floating past
Chorus
Well there’s never going to be the perfect day, the perfect time
You can try to plan it out and hope that it all aligns
You can wait for your moment to step into the light
But it’s never going to come
If your not swimming through the storm
Verse 2
Summer lovin’ was made for teens
They spent those days fused at the hip
Billy talked about of his grand and bloated dreams
Of leaving town, on a one way trip
She told her parents about the proposal
Skipping off to a distant land
Showed off her engagement ring of opal
But her dad could never understand
PC 2:
Seems like yesterday, took what I catch
Like a hurricane, breaking down the latch
Time is floating past
Chorus 2
There’s never going to be the perfect day, the perfect time
You can try to plan it out and hope that it all aligns
You can wait for your moment to step into the light
But it’s never going to come
If your not swimming through the storm
Bridge/Verse 3 I forgot to put this part in the demo :(
Billy’s plans had all worked out except for one, he wanted a son
Doctor said there ain’t a chance
But here I am, here I am

I like that drop back going into the first chorus, it highlights it really nicely! Enjoy the storytelling in this song. Nice tight bluegrass ensemble playing too.

Really thoughtful arrangement that is dynamic and allows the lyrics to keep center stage. Good message and a striking central image. That's quite a stormy instrumental at the break too.

A wonderful song. He comes along well sung and played lightly and variedly. The lyrics are so rich, I like the line best: "You can wait for your moment to step into the light But it's never going to come If your not swimming through the storm"
