Feb 2022 folk malplenan dnd-campaign
No DnD campaign is complete without some folk tunes based on the lore, right? Well, at least this campaign isn't.
This folk song tells the story of two Sqʷn̓ečstm legends climbing the tallest mountain on the continent, Kaveto. The mountain is a perilous place, and of course, neither of them survive.
The Sqʷn̓ečstm are a race on the continent Malplenan, and its name and the name of the two legends are based off of the Salishan languages of the Pacific Northwest in North America (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salishan_languages). I'm sure my pronunciation is terrible as I don't actually speak any of these languages...
[Verse 1]
There were two Sqʷn̓ečstm
who went up
the slopes of mt kaveto
Their names were Im̓ye̓n-o
the brave and
Snč̓l̓ep the boy-o
[Verse 2]
Im̓ye̓n was young
and mislead
her love was ever more
Her heart was filled
with joy and glee
she had forever more
[Verse 3]
Snč̓l̓ep was known
For his tricks and turns
He was dashing and daring
Where he was
Trouble went
But he was also caring
[Verse 4]
Snč̓l̓ep I bet
you can't go
up the slopes of Kaveto
Their cliffs are steep
Their rocks are loose
Their terrors too much for you-o
[Verse 5]
I am faster
than the rocks
can tumble down the hill
Kaveto cannot
break me
It cannot destroy my will
[Verse 6]
Oh Im̓ye̓n
have you heard
of Snč̓l̓ep's travails
He climbs the mountain
on a bet
his soul will surely wail
[Verse 7]
Im̓ye̓n dashed
And chased the rocks
That tumbled from above
If she could not
Catch him then she'd
Share the fate of her love
[Verse 8]
When you look up
And see the slopes
Of old Mt Kaveto
Know that lies there
Im̓ye̓n-o and
Snč̓l̓ep the boy-o

I like the bardic style and sound to this piece, and I wouldn't have a clue if you were mispronouncing the names. A splendid guitar solo, too. Well done.
