<start of song>
Many Years ago, a lady named Eve
won the Australian Cup
Xxx years later along came xx and many
But still we didn’t give up
The years went by and Lord did we try to add our names to the list
But the Williams sisters were far too strong
And we had to be patient and sit
<middle of song>
Need to research names, the game play by play, and maybe mention Wimbledon and her taking a break from tennis?
<end of the bush ballad song>
Point by Point they fought a great game
Where no one was clear to win
Red white and blue, both countries knew
That only one would win.
Then something changed in the air that night
And the crackle of expectation flew
Error by error on the American side
‘Til only one point was due
In slow motion, it all came to be
The fate of the Goddess’s silver crown
She walked to the net, shook her opponents hand
and slowly put the racket down
Then the roar of a champion escaped her lungs,
as the weight of Australia fell
She hugged her best friend, her mentor and mate,
The one who saved her from Hell
We stood up and screamed,
with tears in our eyes,
so proud of our warrior Barty
When the smiles for the camera were finally done
We cracked open our beers and partied!

As a massive tennis fan, I just had to give this one a look in. Good potential here. Barty definitely needs to be a sung hero now she is no longer and unsung one :-)
Congrats to her... but the most recent news about her is a little worrying. Has she decided the only way she can go now after the Ozzie High is down? Is that why she's withdrawn from recent play?

Before I'd even gotten to the last verse my thought was that this would make a great song, sitting in a Pub celebrating! Yes, it will need a little polishing with particulars, but there's plenty there to see the good verse structure, and flow. It will make a fun ballad when music is added, and that should be a straightforward task, given that it already makes melodies in my head.
