Many many years ago I got dumped by someone and rather unwisely went to a friend's party, where I ingested an even more unwise quantity of a certain less than legal pharmaceutical product. It was days before I felt remotely normal again. This is an attempt to present it in a rather sillier setting than it felt at the time...
Also, please never let me sing a chorus that high again. Aaargh! :S
Apologies for the absence of cats.
RUBBER BANDS
I’m forgetting the details
Getting the shakes
It’s been a while since I rested the brakes
Trailed by constant cloud
Like I’m always coming down
I’ve been binding my mind tricks but I don’t understand
And I feel like my head’s held on with rubber bands
I’m regretting my choices
Trying to avoid
Are they out to get me or am I paranoid?
Walls move in my room
Hope the morning isn’t soon
This is the last time I will ever take that drug
I forgot reality where colours do not run
I’m afraid of the daylight
Confused by the dark
Shadows come at me while crossing the park
I will burn my prison gown
Get me out before I drown

Great little song. The chorus sounds good although it does sound like it was a stretch to get those notes out. All in all another successful song.

What a trippy little story!! And that chorus sounds FAB - doesn’t soun too high. Great little skirmish song
@vegansongs Feb 2022
That sounds like a bad trip man! But you gotta great skirmish song - this is spectacular, Andy!

Superb vocals on this one! Neat tangential approach to the prompt.
I have done that and been there and kept the promise you make here. :-)

This is a fine tune in the John Prine tradition. I don't know, maybe the note D is high for a baritone. I;m sure if you lowered the key to A or G the vocal would shake out. I like it a lot.
@hamiltonpoolhall Feb 2022
good lord, I love your vocal on this. And a super clever take on the original prompt! Lovely phrasing, great melody...really great skirmish all the way around.
@xfloorpunchx Feb 2022
A really creative use of the theme! And the vocals sounds super fine to me, even on the "high chorus". Well done!
@wylddandelyon Feb 2022
Oh, nice! I like the lyrics and playing and all, and rubber bands is a great alternative take on "band".
@mariekevinkmusic Feb 2022
ANDY, DAMMIT! You were supposed to be finished with FAWM. You are addicted. It's because I said you should get to 47, isn't it?
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Oh this is such a good sound and wonderfully descriptive song! Love the phrases - I can feel the pain and cognitive disconnect - such a perfect hook. And your vocals sound fantastic on that chorus an throughout! Love the flow of this and the groove you created.
@whispermouse Feb 2022
I know that feeling (unfortunately).
I was trying to figure out if there was a rubber band song in that prompt somewhere - apparently there is! A different take than Pink Floyd, but just as enjoyable.
Nice skirmish!

Oh, I don't know, this is super singable! But, maybe best forgotten. maybe. I really liked it. The images are perfect. I'll admit to only one instance that comes to mind listening to this. Alright, maybe two...

Deceptively jaunty. Great effort!
