This song. This one. This song broke my stride mid-February. I had riffs and parts (too many), I had the verse vocal melody, I had lyric ideas, but they just wouldn’t find together to form a song. I have picked it up multiple times and threw it down again, increasingly frustrated. In the end the 4-chord-loop-challenge helped me make decisions, especially switching out the not-so-strong chorus part for one that goes over the same loop.
Since there was something there that I initially liked I forced myself to do the final lyrics and the recording on February 28th, the mix was done on March 2nd.
LYRICS
Initially I wanted to write about the people in the proximity of Fukushima to have an anti nuclear song, but then it became just the theme of having to leave your old life and ending up far away from your home with no certainty at all. So most likely a song about refugees, which will be one dominating subject for the 21st century and with that goddamn war it is more present now than I thought it would be just two weeks ago. In my first improvised phone memo of the verse (I’m usually mumbling gibberish just to get the melody down) I had sung ‚Juliet oh Juliet‘, no idea why, but I liked and kept that.
Fog over the rubble rise
A greyish stale morning light
Wake up to the noise and smell
Nobody feels well
A hundred people in this room.
Thought we would be leaving soon
Now we’re in week three or four
Maybe even more
That we’re stuck in the Interzone ...
Where I’m leaving I don’t know
I have no place left to go
All I know I’ve left behind
Removed from my own life
Lost in Interzone ...
Juliet oh Juliet
I wish this hadn’t happened yet
Send my message every day
Wanna know if you’re OK
Want to go back to the day
Now all is blown away
Stuck in the Interzone ...

Totally relate to your frustration with several parts not fitting together. I have one of those too that I never did finish before FAWM was over... You did a great job on getting the pieces together on this one though! The hook line is very memorable and I love the production. It reminds me of the sound of an early 2000s band but I can't put my finger on which band that is. Either way, I really enjoyed this!

this one's optimistic ;) or in limbo :)
Juliet's important because she gives the drama a human face.
sometimes these first mumblings express the subliminal meaning quite well...

There are some many textures here that make for a great listen. It's all very catchy but somehow unsettling. The crisper guitars mingling with the more atmospheric stuff really work great. And that, chorus, of chorus, really soars and sticks in one's head. I loved the quieter ending

Just noticed, that I missed this one. I love the chord progression together with the fuzz. I'm happy that the chorus is simple and full of drama. Even not reading the lyrics this song has something intimidating yet powerful. And reading the lyrics capture that well. Props that you managed to write a bridge based on harmonies building a tension on the same 4 chords. This is so cool!

Ooh this is tasty. I really like all of the tones you've got here. All the change-ups throughout the song hit perfectly. Those bigger vocal notes were awesome. Enjoyed this vibe!

The opening chords before the song got heavy remind me a lot of Blond Redhead. Or maybe a bit like Sonic Youth. Of course these aren't perfect comparisons.
I like the lush chords. 2:15 I like the floaty guitars a lot. Kind of shoe-gaze-ish.
I loved this song.

This. Is. REALLY hitting the spot this morning. That wall of lush guitars, the post-rock drums, the progressions, the vocals, the lyrics - this is the complete package.
"Juliet, oh Juliet" made me think of the Dire Straits song, but this is much better, quite frankly. A real blinder.
