Feb 2022 acid downtempo electronic vocal piano fawmtronica
So to begin with I wrote the first verse and cribbed the melody from What Else Is There by Royksopp, but once I had the majority of the arrangement down I scrapped that and came up with one of my own, and the two additional verses, of course.
When you came around to ask how I'm doing
I was wondering if that is called wooing
Body language unclear
At least over here
I hope I have nothing to fear
How is this dating thing supposed to go?
All these rituals we're supposed to know
Do I compliment her dress? Does she compliment mine?
Is that the right line?
Will anyone give me a sign?
Can't she just tie me up? Can't I just submit?
Too much for a first date? Such desires to admit?
We've already established we're both gay
So please point me the right way
How can we start to play

That transition from the soothing/haunting piano to the drums, it is really well matched to the unsure nature of the lyrics. Those vocal effects also highlight the tentativeness described. It is an emotional song in every way - delicate but strong. It is quite a joy to listen to in headphones. Really well done.

I often use the rhythm of an existing song's melody, not the melody itself, when writing lyrics.
This is very haunting, the FX on the vocal gives it a very otherworldly sound, as do the various synth sounds.
