Just made it over the line! I didn't mention Crispian Mills as an influence on my songwriting, but I've always loved Kula Shaker, and the way he's taken on the flame of raga rock from George Harrison and the like. Every so often I try to emulate it.
There's a lot I'd still like to tweak from this version, in the arrangement, the execution of some of the guitar parts, and possibly the lyrics, but it's the most ambitious of the songs I've posted this month.
Incidentally, the lyrics were done before Russia invaded - it's the arrangement and recording that took most of the time - but they have taken on another meaning in the last few days I didn't intend.
I would add I've had a blast doing this - I've written songs I didn't know were there until February rolled around! All genuinely written and done within the 28 days. Thanks for all the kind comments and see you next year.
Hieroglyphic
Truth can be so hard to find,
but it’s there, in the words, in between the lines.
Truth can be so hard to find,
but it’s there, in the numbers, in a print so fine.
Truth can be a weapon fallen in the wrong hands,
stockpiled in closed libraries in far-off foreign lands
truth can open up your heart or chill you to the core
but the one that writes the history wins the war.
Wisdom is so hard to find,
the last look, of a king, on the Hill of Sighs.
Wisdom is so hard to find
is it there, in a prayer, just behind the sky?
It can be elusive, it comes in many forms
like the wisdom of a mother, or a wife
the stretch marks on her body bear witness to her life
the hieroglyphic crow’s feet round her eyes.
[instrumental over 1 Corinthians 14, 9 – 12]
Love can be so hard to find,
is it there, on the page, of a holy book?
Love can be so hard to find,
is it there in a room, in a single look?
Some would want to see it
in a thousand strangers’ eyes
it could be there in all the ties that bind.
Brother and a sister, a father and a son,
or in the furthest corner of your mind.

Oooh, I love this minor-key melody and gentle accompaniment. Beautiful vivid lyrics. The thunder is a nice unexpected touch too. I really enjoyed listening. Wonderful song!

Nice work, that is a powerful song to end Fawm on. Hieroglyphic crow's feet round her eyes is a great line. Reading Corinthians during the instrumental was a great touch. Really well done.

Outstanding work to finish off your month. The lyrics are so well constructed. The last verse is especially striking. Melody-wise I really love the three part descent on the second and fourth lines, and the lead melody on the guitar too. Overall the guitars sit really well together, and it was an excellent choice to bolster the arrangement with that moody synth. Brilliant work. Rest and be happy!

These lyrics are stunning, and the song really brings them to life, this is both tragic and beautiful. I see what you mean about it taking on a new meaning more recently. It's definitely speaking to me in terms of current events.
Stunning write, really stunning.
