I don't really play mandolin. This needs a harmonica. Lyrics even reference that.
I must say I don’t know what to do
Heading north got to see it through
Trying trying trying to get a message to you
It’s been a way a way on down the line
Though I heard that engine number 9
Steaming pretty looking really fine
Toot toot toot
Toot toot goes that train
Down the track sunny day or rain
Drives me mad but I ain’t feeling no pain
Play that harp throttle on the note
Station man will hear that sound we hope
Gotta stop we gonna pick up folks
Chorus
Destination coming round the bend
Very soon your good times it may end
Gather round and try to pick up friends
Chorus
It's your stop it's time that you get off
The station light you fly to like a moth
Jump while it slows your landing will be soft

You 'don't really play mandolin' in the same sort of way that I don't really play mandolin -- with reckless abandon and joy.
I can hear how a harmonica part would work with this for sure. Catchy and bouncy!

It looks and sounds like you okay mandolin! I like the energy you bring to the strum for this train song! Perfect! And yes a harmonic part would be really cool for this song. Your vocal delivery is great and I like the journey the lyrics take us on. Great last stanza!
