From @daveescoffery: We got the prompt "togetherness," and I immediately thought of a recent trip we'd taken to family camp (see the picture) when the kids were more interested in staying in the cabin on their phones than doing any of the fun activities. I saw @Caitlin's heart break because the kids used to love doing all those things (rock climbing and archery and zip lines and more), and it was stuff they could all do together as a family. Seeing those old traditions go away is definitely sad. But that doesn't mean new traditions aren't being made all the time. Just last week, we all went as a family to see dodie in concert, and maybe we started a new tradition because we have a few more family shows in the works! The family that rocks out together, stays together.
From @caitlin:
When @daveescoffery wrote these lyrics and shared them with me, I cried big fat mama bear tears. I've been struggling so much with the kids becoming teenagers, leaving behind their childhood, our traditions, our togetherness. I'm even weeping as I type this. What can I say? He gets me. <3
I don't want to go back there, can't I just stay here
But you always loved it there, we went every year
I'm fine on my own, I don't need you to tuck me in
But we have our special kiss, this was always our thing
What togetherness looks like today
May not be the same
As togetherness yesterday
And that's ok
That's ok
You don't really need to walk with me, I can make it to the bus
But that was always our special time, walking and talking, just us
Oh hey, I'm going out with some friends, no dinner for me tonight
But that's when we do High-Low-Buffalo, so I know everything's alright
What togetherness looks like today
May not be the same
As togetherness yesterday
And that's ok
That's ok
As cherished traditions start changing
It can be easy to miss
The fact that new traditions are forming
If there's one thing I know, it's this:
The more things change, the more they stay the same
What togetherness looks like today
May not be the same
As togetherness yesterday
And that's ok
That's ok

This hits hard. As my kids get older, I feel this one some days! I love the back and forth lines throughout. Nice work on this collab!

So sweet! Sounds a little like The Cranberries :) time heals all wounds—new traditions and memories await your beautiful blended family!! You’re teaching them how to choose happiness! Hope you had a wonderful FAWM!

Seems like your kids are in an age where computer and smartphones are more interesting than nature. But maybe they return to this after they grow up. That's what's happening in my generation...
Great lyrics. I can relate so much on them. Everybody moves and changes. Big props to everybody who manages to feel OK and stay together doing different things
