Feb 2022 folk protest ukraine war
Inspired by the accounts of the hapless young Russian conscripts captured by the Ukrainian army, often demoralized and wondering what the real reasons for their presence there actually is, having often been sold a bill of goods about "exercises" or whatever lie Putin is telling his cannon fodder. War is so goddamn stupid...these guys are often all but kin...
This one's short...
Taylor 314ce 6 string
Taylor 355 12-string
Fender Jazz Bass
Roland Butt Jupiter-8 plugin
In a daze I came to my senses
Smoldering tank in ruins on the road
The blast took the life of my comrade
Stranded on this battlefield alone
I beg of you please don’t treat me harshly
Against my will this journey had begun
I don’t really know why I was sent to fight against my brothers
I’d really rather raise a glass than a gun
My family has no idea where I am
Or how I ended up so far from home
All I ever wanted was just to live my own life
Now I’m a captive in a war zone
<solo>
They say there are no atheists in foxholes
But what kind of god would let us go on this kind of run
Under the threat of weapons of mutually assured destruction…
I’d really rather raise a glass than a gun

Powerful song, great story that the lyrics convey. Love the sounds of the Taylors (I've got a few myself).

Wonderful hook and write and what great guitar playing, the production is beautiful. Thank you for sharing this on the Ukraine Thread.

Yep, the suffering that war causes is best told through first hand accounts. And it often gets forgotten that now a generation of young men, women and children is now forever traumatized as our grandparents were in WW II. Very effective lines in that way, and sound and playing are ace.

Soulful storytelling vocals on this one, friend. And a strong hook lyric. Lovely acoustic guitar solo. Apt and timely.

Gorgeous guitar playing, and just a beautiful and emotional song. There are no winners in war. Excellent sentiment and a very strong song. Glad you could share it before the end of FAWM.

Exploring this perspective is really interesting. It's like people who are caught in the middle, and it's happening right now. Great guitar work and a solid melody. Enjoyed it!
