Feb 2022 superskirmish acoustic-one-take uplifting show-up s022722
Skirmish, I wrote this SO QUICK, I even took a work call in the middle of the write.
It's gonna take me a minute to post because I've gotta post a bunch of my writes from yesterday and earlier in the day (keeping them in order matters to me and I've been waiting to post until after my roomie is asleep so I don't waste noise able hours).
Sometimes it takes everything
To roll out and pour out the flakes
To summon strength for chaotic days
I have an idea of just what it takes
But you, are still here
A little shaky, but you beat the fear
We are lucky that you’re on our side
We are lucky that you did not hide
Sometimes it takes everything
To get up and to show you’re face
To overcome the scars and the fear
The world can be a scary place
But you, are still here
A little shaky, but you beat the fear
We are lucky that you’re on our side
We are lucky that you did not hide
And you might not think that it matters
But places are better where you have gathered
You showed up and that is enough
Cuz sometimes that alone can be tough
But you, are still here
A little shaky, but you beat the fear
We are lucky that you’re on our side
We are lucky that you did not hide

This really resonates with me, and particularly 'a little shaky'- a positive message while allowing space for you to not entirely be ok. And your delivery is very raw, which also sells it well- shades of early Bright Eyes here and there.

Oh, this is such a sweetly reassuringly sympathetic song. Feels like something a caring colleague or coach might sing to someone who's going through some rough stuff. I like the way you sing it and your guitar playing is great. Especially like that additional rhythm part in the second chorus. (And that Oh goodness, makes it all so real.) Skirmish for the win.

Wow -- impressive for such a quickly written song. Love the melody (and guitar). I love "But you, are still here/A little shaky, but you beat the fear" and, of course, the overall message -- simple works well for expressing that.

Really love your vocals on this one...the guitar picking is so beautiful as well..
Awesome song.

This doesn't sound like a super quick take. But maybe it's because you feel the lyrics. They are sweet abd definately a keeper.
Chris if I recorded myself playing guitar and singing I'd curse a lot. Because I just can't sing along and some chords are just oh goodness!

This is the heart of the song, I think, and it's right in the middle!
Sometimes it takes everything
To get up and to show you’re face
To overcome the scars and the fear
The world can be a scary place
This is great. A good last song to read on the topic.

Whoopsie! :D
This is a really sweet lyric! I love this being a very intimate 1v1 as well I think that's where it will be strongest(even if you do redo it for some reason... I wouldn't). The switchup between the gentle fingerpick and the heavier strums is really working for me too. Great skirmish!

Haha "whoops" love the realness here. This is so sweet! It recognizes how hard it can be to show up, even when we know it's the right thing to do. It's like a lullaby but the kind that makes you want to show up instead of go to sleep. "Oh goodness" so good! Way to show up and knock this out :)

I like the dynamics as this song moves along from fingerpicking to more aggressive strumming. It's a sensitive lyric. Very well done skirmish.
