Mike:
This was a bit of a throwaway genre pastiche, then someone strolled in with a saxophone under her arm and sang the goddamn house down. Hell yes. Cheers Susy!
Susy:
I pulled an eleventh hour on this one but had a fun time! Mike even sent those clever lyrics n provided some melody when I cried (time) poor, bless him as I hate writing lyrics n hey, the man is a professional- obviously! Thanks Mike I had a blast
you tell me i'm perfect, you're perfectly fine
but it's not you i'm dreaming of
don't need you to need me, don't say that you're mine
just give me your best imitation of love
let's keep it simple, let's make a mess
i'll bring the push, you bring the shove
if your heart's with another, well i couldn't care less
just give me your best imitation of love
while a heart's mending no need to be spending
my evenings alone with a bottle of wine
while my heart's mending no shame in pretending
i'm fine
while a heart's mending no harm in befriending
some similar soul just to while away time
while something's ending no shame in pretending
i'm totally perfectly fine
everything's rosy, no need to be blue
darling you're with me, and that's enough
and until this is over, i'll bestow upon you
my best imitation of love

Ooh, lovely instrumentation and voice. Great pairing, you guys. It feels effortless and smooth, and cooool
@elainedimasi Mar 2022
What a hook line - what a great answer it gets form that sax!
I couldn't love "let's make a mess" any more than I do :-)
Everything works great here. So glad you both did this collab.
@crisp1 Mar 2022
Very clever lyric and I love the whole feel of the song -- like something you could imagine Mae West singing. Fab-u-lous, you two!
@fearlessflight2014 Mar 2022
Wow! This sounds like some classic song from the 50’s that has already become a karaoke classic. Amazing performance and just hits the sweet spot for sultry jazzy goodness! Amazing collaboration guys!
@karlsburg25 Mar 2022
OMG you two this is simply gorgeous. Its beyond sexy this song. Really great combo of jazz instruments with plenty of space for the vocals to bloody soar which they do. Great stuff Mike and amazeballs to susy of course on those mega vocals
@sherrycanary Mar 2022
Wow. This is one smokin' hot jazz ballad.
Susy...so cool to hear the jazzy side of you.
I love everything about this song.
Amazing production, and more sax!!!!!
Mike, what a terrific write
This is a collab made in heaven
@judypie Mar 2022
Goddamn SIT DOWN AND BEHAVE YOSELVES WILL YOU YOU CHEEKY MARES!! (I hope that translates well down under). This is the first sax I’ve heard this Fawm which is a DAMN SHAME but yassss worth the wait!
@leepat Mar 2022
mmm, perfect sonic backdrop for a Raymond Chandler flick.
you bring the spade, i bring the shovel…
exquisite all round. bravo!
@sailingmagpie Mar 2022
I don't think either of you will be surprised that I absolutely love this! Right up my street! A perfectly nailed jazzy vibe. It sounds like it should be the soundtrack in a prohibition speakeasy. I could pick out specific things I love about this but then my comment would be just a list of everything in the song! Top work from both of you!
@silvermachine Mar 2022
Splendid instrumentation, lovely sax, and lots of clever variations on the jazz manifesto. Lyrics were stylish; there was heat, there was coolness and the vocal skated over the ice in my cocktail. Lots of finesse.
@lowhum Feb 2022
yeah, baby, has a brechtian middle my, oh, my and an overall noir ballad next alley cinematic vibe.
@liz561 Feb 2022
This is a fantastic collaboration. The singing is smoking, the different sections are great with the different instruments. The sneaky little piano bits here and there jumping around to surprise, and the lyrics are great! Really enjoyed this!
@shortdan Feb 2022
This is bloody great in every way. Instrumentation is fantastic (totally swooning at that sax!). The melody is captivating and the whole arrangement is ace. I don't know if it's the style but I'm getting Nora Jones vibes from your vocal in this one Susy. It's the jazzy nature of the track I think. Anyhow, brilliant you two - as if it was ever going to be anything else!
@ohljazz Feb 2022
Nothing pastiche about it - a solid jazz song with super lyrics
@adforperu Feb 2022
Oh fuck yes! Immediately transported to some old-timey jazz club. Wait wait wait, did I know susy played sax? WHAT? Wait, I think I did. Did I? Excellent bedrock from Mike here, that piano work is absolutely glorious. Both of you are showing such versatility here, you are very excellent collaborators.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
This is brilliant! Holy smokes! Not sure who did what with which, guess suzy played sax and sang! This is exceptional. I feel like i should know it! Would drop into so many movies or just be great in a late night club!
@nancyrost Feb 2022
Yes, these lyrics could have had a much lighter reading. It could be a Cole Porter lyric in its irony and rhyming style, I feel like. I like the darker singing, very much on point.
