So I got home late from vaca last night and today I wrote a song about it. And btw it wasn't Hawaii (which I previously used as my gold standard of vacations), it was St. Thomas, which wasn't too shabby either.
Forgive the sloppy violin parts, I knew I needed filler and an instrumental but struggled to motivate myself to play. Plus guitar is capo-d on 3rd fret so it's in a weird key. However, at least I got one song in with a violin part.
Oh, also, no bridge but an extra verse that I snuck in there. Should I add another or remove one?
Re: vacation, I did not have much wifi on the beach, duh, so I didn't get much listening in. But there's still time! And speaking of which - thanks so much for listening!
Let's Sit and Sit and Sit
Hey there what time is it?
It seems twenty years poured down while we slept
Light reveals life where the sun has crept
You touched my tender hip while I mourned and wept.
Hey should we make a go of it?
God knows the road is worn and our treads are thin
Seen under my eyes and on the map of your skin
Let’s just lay quiet til the air’s grown thick.
CHORUS
Ooooh for my love of you
I’ll sit in the sand and enjoy the view
Oooooh for the love of it
Let’s sit in the sand and make a wish
Let’s sit in the sand and sit and sit and sit.
Hey so yeah what’s the hitch?
It’s as close as you bite and as far as I spit
We’ll speak in sharp tones like the hermit crab’s pinch
But in the island's silence maybe something sticks.
Hey so just forgive and submit?
Like the island be silent and let the cool waves hit
Get drunk on fine wine and unfiltered cigarettes
Puts purple in the sky and on our dry lips.
CHORUS
INSTRUMENTAL
Hey oh time's sinking in
Let’s pack up the bags and shards and bits
Gather the towels and straying kids
Climb high to the point for our last sunset.
CHORUS

Really enjoyable song. The violin is really effective and I like the solo. The guitar is lovely and subtle and goes well with the violin. The lyrics are good too – I like ‘the road is worn and our treads are thin’. Nice vocals – and I like the harmonies in the chorus.

This should definitely make a future album. I love the melody and delivery on the verses. I enjoyed your lyrics...between the description of sitting on the beach and an existential crisis...
"Hey so yeah what’s the hitch?
It’s as close as you bite and as far as I spit" - nice line!

Your violin reminds of Jonathan Segal, it has that feeling of playing for expression itself, to speak rather than to be heard. It's a wonderful fit for this song that's so full of feeling but not demanding attention.

I like the ease of this tune about time passing, rather than a feeling of dread, regret, or sadness. Makes it unique. Cool song.

I am so glad to be listening in March. This is a lovely song, and I could live there too.just watching the sunsets sitting in the sand.

Ahhhhhhh this message to me = love is when one can just be with another special one. I'm so glad to have found that. Lovely guitar and the violin lead.

Your vocal harmonies are so awesome, and I’m jealous of your gentle guitar picking skills. Seriously though, your vocal tracks sound so good.

Pretty song and relaxing. I like the violin along with all the instruments. Very sensual lyrics- sight, taste, touch. Love the "speak in sharp tones like the hermit crab's pinch" line.

This is so lovely! The chorus with the repeated “ooh for the love of it” — twice but not three times! — is aching. The whole song is. So many great lines — “as close as you bite and as far as I spit” — “twenty years poured down as we slept” — “the road is worn and our treads are thin” — this feels like a song that would run over the end of a film.
And it’s wonderful to hear your viola!

This is amazing, and one of your best songs, I think. Fantastic recording as well! Every line has that intense and emotional wordplay that says-and-doesn't say so much in its own poetic way. Love the breeziness of it all too, and how the yin and yang of life is celebrated. Fantastic write and welcome back to NY !

I like the way the conflict wafts in and out of the love like in real life - and the rhythm of high tides and low tides just splashes in and out through it all. I bet there's a way to get some kind of receding ocean verbs into that second line about the 20 years. Wish I knew a word for that way that the sand caves in under your footprints while you're standing there and the water is rushing out....That feels like a pretty nice analogy for the way 20 years might go by in a mostly good marriage....
It sounds great. Glad to find another one of yours this year.

I just got back from Florida today. I miss it already, but this tune brings me back a little. Sit and sit and sit, thats my kinda vacation. Theres some darkness lingering in those verses though giving this some layers. Real nice tune.

Oh this is lovely. I love the vocals and they sound great up front, the violin in the background is a really nice touch. Pretty melody. I like the gentle folky vibe. A real pleasure to listen to.

What a pretty, inspiring, relaxing song! Thanks for lightening the air in this current atmosphere of not nice things going on in the world.
Love the little violin part!
