Feb 2022 folk acoustic-one-take alt-tuning
I wrote this at the beginning of Feb on a guitar that's currently in the shop. I had notes about a riff at the beginning that I couldn't figure out on the guitar I had. I was starting to get frustrated with it... then I looked at the lyrics of the song a bit harder.
It's hard sometimes to remember to breathe - but that's when it's most important.
This is in a tuning I used a lot - high E dropped to D.
Acoustic live take
Breathe In
Breathe out
Drink deep
Uncertain air
Swallow down
Dark Frigid doubt
Breathe Out
Breathe In
Breathe Out
Expand
With sand and sky
Feel the rain
Appease the drought
Breathe Out
Breathe
Breathe
What comes in
Must go out
Breathe In
Breathe Out
Measure time’s
Relentless tide
As the waves
Toss you about
Breathe
Breathe
What comes in
Must go out
You can only hold
This burning
In your chest
For a little now
Pressure builds
Your heart compressed
But you’re standing still
Somehow
Breathe In
Breathe out

the guitar tone and opening strums reminded me of something... it took me awhile to decide it was probably ani difranco's "grey"... i might make connections because i have a limited amount of songs bouncing around in my head. i like the guitar sound and the sparse, less narrative lyrics.

funny, i was prepared for this to be on piano because of your avatar. :)
the guitar tone sounds great, and yeah sometimes it's such a simple weird little thing to remember to... y'know. breathe.

This has a meditative quality to it, makes me want to just let go into the song. Guitar sounds great, and the lyrics are profound. Excellent work.

Guitar sounds great. Dropping the high e to d is a new one for me. Is this the new Breedlove?
