@guitarpatz83: @zecoop and I met last FAWM and have stayed in touch on Instagram as fellow gear nerds. We tentatively planned a collab and I wasn’t sure we’d manage it in time but - we did it!
John came up with a great idea, and sent me a fantastic drum and acoustic guitar track and asked me to do whatever I wanted over the top. There’s lots of 90s alt rock guitar in what I came up with (I was getting a Pearl Jam vibe with the verse part), and I’m really happy with the interplay between John’s acoustic guitars and my bass and electric guitar riffs. Lyrically there’s a few things going on - the state of the world right now got me thinking of escapism and helplessness on an individual level while the chorus sections are kind of a call to action but also a reminder that it will all pass - one way or another. Nothing is forever.
Really enjoyed working on this and a real pleasure to get to play around on the sandbox of John’s superb musicianship - oh and to use the goldfoil-modded vintage Musicmaster he digs ;)
@zecoop: Yeah, it has been fun tapping guitar this post year. I'm super glad we were able to figure out something before we hit the end of FAWM. This song came out really quickly when I got to Rob's name on my collab list. I did a lot of directed songwriting this year for people I have written with before, but I although I had heard Rob's stuff last year and this year, I didn't really have a good handle on exactly what to write. But, since we both have geeked out over various guitar things in the past year, I just strummed my acoustics like mad and wrote something that left a huge space for him to explore and fill in. It's always great to hear a lead guitar person, since that is absolutely NOT me, but all his great rhythm electric guitars made such a fun interwoven tapestry of sound as well, along with the bass playing and vocal melody. I especially love what he did with my breakdown bridge section. Amazing job taking a pretty open palette and crafting a great song together with me. This was a lot of fun to do, so I am sure there will be more! Thanks Rob!!

We live in the moment
Forever seems a long long way away
And I wake from a bad dream
But it keeps running away with me
The bigger they are
The harder they fall
The setting of suns
Comes to us all
The bigger they are
The louder they call
The setting of suns
Comes to us all
Way out in the ocean
Where there’s nothing to fear for me
The lights come ever closer
And I’m afraid that
The waves might wash me away to sea
The bigger they are
The harder they fall
The setting of suns
Comes to us all
The bigger they are
The louder they call
The setting of suns
Comes to us all
All in my imagination
I hope and pray that I
Keep my head this time
All in my fabrication
I left you open wide to
Run a country mile
You see my desperation lines
Turning a blind eye
Wasting all my time
On my big mouth
Start to lose my grip
It all begins to slip away
The bigger they are
The harder they fall
The setting of suns
Comes to us all
The bigger they are
The louder they call
The setting of suns
Comes to us all
All in my

I really like the vocal melody on the chorus, and the effect you add to give it a response, would be cool to go quite psychedelic on the chorus, swirls and phasing would be great.
I like the one chord hold just before the solo, might be interesting to explore further? And then really explode into the rock god guitar solo. And yes PJ does sprin to mind on the verses, sounds like a lost song from 10.
Digging how the ending leaves the listener on tenterhooks... 'all in my what... tell me RPattzz, please!', yes I like that kind of puzzle :)

This song is a great blend of the both of you--the way good collabs are! There is a lot going on here....The drums and acoustics give such a nice full base and direction (nice stops, pauses, and dynamics!) and then there's a mountain of guitars and vocals weaving all over the place. Really great collab!
@cleanshoes Mar 2022
This is a great alt-rock track, both of you! I definitely get that 90s vibe. Such rich layers! I particularly like what happens melodically on the bridge.
@berty38 Mar 2022
I really appreciate the space you put between lines in the vocals to allow us to really hear the rocking instrumentals (and that really cool echo in the chorus). The bridge is a great jam. The way it builds before the solo is great structure. Ending the lyrics mid phrase is so intriguing. #tit4tat

The guitars are awesome...of course they would be. I enjoy the echo harmony in the vocal. The pause after "All in my" and following verses was cool. Guitar solo - wonderful! Great collab!

Good guitar work, good vocals especially the harmonies/echoes over the groove. I'm just about listened out for today but this is a good one to finish on. impressed by the harder/louder fall/call tweaks. All true.
@pumpkinhead Mar 2022
Nice work with the guitars. I like the sound, reminds me of Nick Kershaw one of my teenage stars. Cool!
Peace

Dang that’s catchy! Pearl Jam wishes they could have been that funky. I’m really digging the bass tone and may I say some Geddy like runs here and there!

Definately getting that 90's grunge feel, vocals are great here. The lead guitar parts weave in and out of focus and really add some layers and detail - such good work!
I especially love the "All in my.." section though, cool contrasting rhythms and dynamics.

Great collab. Lots of guitars working together well.
@nadine Feb 2022
Wow. This sounds so professional and could be on the radio right now. I love the instrumentation and performance. The harmonies are splendid. Never been a gear nerd (I'm way deeper into processing) but you make me wanna turn into one.

Another fabulous collaboration from Rob and John. Great combination of acoustics and electrics and perfect bass track. Also timely lyrics. Let’s hope the big ones face the setting sun as soon as possible.

Woohoo, love this jam, just love how it takes off from the get go. Harmonies soooo good. Especially on, "awaaaaay." The instrumental section is such a treat. Such great energy. I am not a gear nerd but I totally appreciate that you both are, otherwise we'd all sounds like folk singers :-) thanks for this!
