Song #11 is a pining, punky sort of folk tune about two lovers finding each other while both are still wearing the loss of a past relationship. I'm going to produce this one with a full band arrangement but I haven't had time to create that version during this year's FAWM. I hope to have it all shiny and glowed up on a future release, because I really love the lyrics and the attitude of it. Anyway, Enjoy!
Sugar your look was sharp
You ran me through
There was my shield of grief
All split in two
I woke from a five year dream
And couldn't move
I felt like I'd lived a death
I couldn't prove
The world was a different place
And love had a different face
I must have seemed so confused
Darlin it's hard to say
But might be true
I think I've been afraid
Of loving you
I've been down this road before
It feels like I've been to war
and I know what it's like to lose
It's like no earthly destination
And a train that never came
And you're standing on the platform in the rain
Darlin your walls were clear
I saw right through
There was your shield of grief
All split in two
You woke from a six year dream
And couldn't move
A wound in your neck that
Nothing seems to soothe
The world was a different place
And love had a different face
You must have been so confused
It's like a wasp nest in your pocket
With your wallet underneath
and All you need is twenty dollars for your dreams
Darlin it's to say
But might be true
I think I've been afraid
Of loving you
I've been down this road before
It feels like I've been through war
I know what it's like to lose
You

This is really interesting. I like how the images are so concrete, but the story remains opaque so I get to help fill in the details. I was especially struck by the idea that the singer is waking up from a 5 year dream but the singee is waking up from a 6 year dream....Interesting...I like the way you sing and play.

This is a really good write. The "wasp nest" bridge? was very clever. Love the vocal dynamics and the melody is really catchy, I like this one plus one, I know you want to produce this up, but I like this in a 'Plain White T's" sort of way...like "Delilah" or "1,2, 3, 4", don't know if this translates....anyhow, I do like this, great song!

The two damaged lovers trying to come together in a new relationship: yes, the fear and hurt is all there in the lyric. Good similes used too.

That high jump on the last syllable of certain lines (the 'through' and 'move') reminded me of that Beatles trick in From Me To You and I Want To Hold Your Hand. Just gives a little flourish, and I love how you alternate it so as not to overdo the effect. Great lyrics too. The 'wasp nest in your pocket' is just... wow.

That's an absolute pearl of a vocal melody, and it's perfect for those plaintive, bruised words. The "wasp nest in your pocket" verse is especially striking. Great song.
