This song is inspired by Nikole Hannah-Jones's The 1619 Project and quotes it directly in the second and third A parts. (Footnoted.). The fury directed at her work, and at "critical race theory," seems to come from the same place as Repugnant babbling about "fake news" or corruption -- the more accurate the criticism, the louder they howl.
Musically this is based around my Moog guitar with its filter that sounds like wah-wah from hell, four bass lines on two different synths (Moog Voyager and Access Virus), one harmonica break chopped up lots of different ways in the Kaoss Pad, and cheesy automatic drums from Logic effected and doubled.
Don't you dare be critical
Of our history of racism
Your books are illegal
Don't dare call it fascism
They won't listen to the theory
They're busy with the practice
We tried to teach them history
But that's when they attacked us
We have believed in this country
With a faith that it did not deserve (p 34)
We cling to our mythology
And we will not be disturbed
They're busy with the practice
They're threatened by the theory
Boasting about the progress
Erasing all the history
We have been taught the history
Of a country that does not exist (p xxx)
Every chance we've had to learn
We ignored or dismissed
They profit from the practice
And prosecute the theory
Rearrange the facts and
Tell a phony story
We pretend there isn't any prejudice
Ignore all the hopes that were dashed
We forget all the injustice
And again we repeat the past

"We have been taught the history of a country that does not exist, every chance we've had to learn we ignored or dismissed." Wow. "Rearrange the facts and tell a phony story." The swings just keep coming. 400 years later, crazy. . . cool, driving track beneath.

You bringing the words! And you bringing the sounds. That's pretty insane aural candy. Lovin it

Truth!! History lessons and literary canons written by the same old white dudes — the ones of privilege. From their perspective. This song and all of its contents, both sound and lyrics, have me thinking. Well done!
