Written with Rahul Borkar.
I love this genre but alas, I have no teenage angst from unrequited love left to channel. So, the next best thing was to make it an empowerment song about owning up to your mistakes and being yourself.
I got to channel my inner Avril Lavigne meets Amy Lee on this one, so that's another FAWM bucket list item checked off lol! This is still a demo, and Rahul did the track on this one.
PUT UP MIRRORS
VERSE 1
Ever realize you’re self sabotaging
Every fault wasn’t everyone else’s
Can’t believe it took me so long
To come to terms with it all
Tried to be what I thought they wanted
No wonder I was too ucomfortable
in my skin to put myself out there
but I know better now
CHORUS
So put up mirrors in every corner
I won’t be shy, I won’t take cover
Finally okay if the light were to shine on me
Who I am now is what you’ll see
I’m done listening to my doubts (I’ve
done my share of letting my fears win
Now I’m ready to be the advocate
For the one staring back at me
No longer scared to see her
Put up the mirrors
VERSE 2
I can’t waste my time on self pity
Have to find other ways to win
I don’t need to meet any standards
Other than my own
I don’t tell myself I’m pretty
Coz beauty isn’t my proxy
For my worth, I’ve so much more
I bring to the table
Than magazine material
CHORUS
So put up mirrors in every corner
I won’t be shy, I won’t take cover
Finally okay if the light were to shine on me
Coz I see myself looking back
I’m done listening to my doubts (I’ve
done my share of letting my fears win
Now I’m ready to be the advocate
For the one staring back at me
No longer scared to see her
Put up the mirrors
BRIDGE
I'm still
Learning to own
My mistakes
But I
Know now
It's the only way out
So put up mirrors
I won't be shy
Finally myself, so shine the light on me
CHORUS
So put up mirrors in every corner
I won’t be shy, I won’t take cover
Finally okay if the light were to shine on me
Coz I see myself looking back
I’m done listening to my doubts (I’ve
done my share of letting my fears win
Now I’m ready to be the advocate
For the one staring back at me
No longer scared to see her
Put up the mirrors

This is great! Powerful. Reminds me of Blondie, one of my faves from the '80s. Great song!

your phrasing makes the race through these punky affirmations a lot of fun and the piano part rook me by surprise and made me take notice that there is a lot more going on here than i was expecting

Your description of Avril and Amy nails it well. I'm happy that you do not scream yourself hoarse like both do when they're singing in their head register. I love the vocal phrasing. And propts so self-empowerment!

You go girl! I love the self-empowerment. The sudden mood change in the bridge is very effective.

This filled my energy cup better than coffee ! I like how the guitar has a massive gain and the drums are extra fast and furious, but it somehow manage to keep clean. And at the same moment, your voice keeps its sweet softness but get into the rythm and the energy of the genre. Subtle balance !
