Matt sent me the first two verses with a title and asked if I wanted to do something with them and see what happens. well this happened! I really enjoyed working with Matt's words, and then extrapolating them to include the chorus and another verse.
Reflections
Looking from my window
I can see the auburn trees
Standing like giants
Swaying in the breeze
And in the moments after
I remember your laughter
And it makes me smile...
A billion tiny diamonds
Are creeping into view
Over the horizon
In a sky of royal blue
As the day becomes the night
Turning out the light
If only for a while...
my reflections of you
start to crack
My reflections of me
quit staring back
my reflections of us
are under attack
my reflections of me
quit staring back
now im rolling down the highway
chasing memories of you
been driving since friday
but im running out of fuel
each day feels just like the last
when your going this fast
But its only empty miles
my reflections of you
start to crack
My reflections of me
quit staring back
my reflections of us
are under attack
my reflections of me
quit staring back

Wow. What an interesting place to take those verses. I love how you resisted the pull to just rehash the verses in the chorus and instead blew the whole song wide open. For me writing good verses comes so much more naturally that writing an emotional chorus, and the is feels like a masterclass. Great collaboration. I love using auburn to describe the trees.

Remarkably seamless co-write, an excellent bit of writing from both of you!

Its a seamless lyric which is very good from 2 writes and they are very good lines. Nice delivery particularly the drawn words and the punchy guitar.

Cool lyrics, powerful rhythmic strumming on the guitar and an emotive vocal delivery makes this a winner. Well played!

That two-chord vamp is so cool - just the perfect voicing in the guitar. Oh, then of course there's the lyric, the melody, the delivery, all absolutely on-point. This works perfectly as it is, but that band in my head can't help but plug in start building this thing up - and it too sounds great!
