Feb 2022 fuc sopranino ukulele
This a true tale describing our recent commuter train trip out from Paris this evening, in time to catch the last Super Skirmish of the year.
I had planned to write a song about the trip and was so pleased the prompt fitted it perfectly.
Cable found in FNAC . technical difficulties resolved!
(G) I’m riding on a night train through the (C) suburbs of Paris
The (G) carriage is full to its (D) peak capacity
I don’t (Bm) want to look directly at this (C) section of humanity
So I (G) look at reflections in the window that (D) still allow me to (G) see
There’s a (G) princess with a tiara, she must have (C) been to Carnival
She’s got a (G) rainbow coloured cat that is (D) surely her best pal
Her (Bm) mother holds her brother fast as(C)leep in her lap
She’s (G) nodding off and keeps (D) giving herself a (G) slap
There’s a (G) unicorn on board I’m (C) very surprised to see
It (G) floats above a child who res(D)trains it on a lead
There’s a (Bm) black guy with a physique like a pro(C)fessional athlete
And (G) twenty people standing while one (D) woman hogs two (G) seats
(G) Slowly, the carriage empties out and (C) we get to sit down
I stop (G) looking out the window and (D) take a good look around
There’s (Bm) all of humanity (C) travelling on this train
It’s (G) only a forty minute ride but it’s (D) etched now into my (G) brain

Oh wow, this was like sitting in this train. Needless to say I would very much love to go to Paris by train again. Loving these down-to-earth lyrics of yours.

I love the reality in these songs of observing people in one's surroundings. Very good work. And educational...I had to look up FNAC!

love the banjo uke.
also, the last verse where you look around and see everyone. it's lovely.
bravo! great skirmish!

I love the concept of the song - reminds me of being on a tube train at Karnival in Cologne, many years ago - the surreality of all those fancy dressed people crammed into the carriage. I always wanted to write about that but you've done it! Like the music and delivery - a little reminiscent of Half Man Half Biscuit

An insightful, vivid look at, as you sing, "all of humanity." And the uke sounds sweet, too. Uke and vocal combined make a heartfelt combo.

What a lovely slice of life song. I want to go to that Carnival. You made me smile.

Oh cheerful and jolly. Just what I needed to drag me outta the down and sad thoughts currently happening.
Love the unicorn :)

Fun song to listen to. Lovely take on the prompt. It's intertesting how you had an idea and it fitted perfectly with the prompt.

I chuckled at the woman hogging two seats! This is really nice! A very successful skirmish indeed
@mikeskliar Feb 2022
wonderful powers of observation there! back in the pre-pandemic era I'd write a fair bit while on a subway train commute here in nyc- and I can picture the whole scene there! nicely done!

I love this musical reflection on a slice of humanity. The use of the windows reflection to take in the diversity of people and speculate on their lives is brilliant. The vivid images paint a great picture of your train car.
