Skirmish - with the prompt 'Window' - 46 minutes.
i have no idea where this came from, but it was the first thing i thought of when i saw the prompt - window rolling down and watching the night fly past and listening to the sounds.
I rolled the window down
And let you slip away
On the other side of town
near Johnnys old cafe
I didnt recognise
who you were today
so I rolled the window down
and let you slip away
I rolled the window down
and watched the trees go by
That old familiar sounds
Of late July
I didnt recognise
And couldnt ask you why
so I rolled the window down
and watched the trees go by
I will always remember
The night we surrendered
the smell of your wet skin
how much we were burning
I gave you my first light
you gave me your goodbye
So i rolled the window down
and drove into the night

Not sure how I missed this before! Liking the guitar work, gives a feel of travelling along. Lovely lyrics, especially "the smell of your wet skin / how much we were burning". Very evocative. Good work mate! :)

Awesome. Reminds me of Springsteen quite a bit. Great imagery and storytelling in the lyric. Vocals are perfect
@berty38 Feb 2022
This is great! The lyrics tell such a vivid story but also leave room for listeners to interpret it for their own.

Excellent song! I love the feeling you bring with a breeze. THe whole song feels like an open car window! Amazing.
@hoppiern Feb 2022
Oh, I love what you did with this prompt! The first two lines immediately grabbed me, and then happily, the song didn't let go. Lovely, strong last verse. Well done!
@jwhanberry Feb 2022
That's a very strong song just the way it sits. I'm sure it will be a crowd pleaser. Glad you're back to your music.
@whispermouse Feb 2022
Nice take on the prompt, and some quite lovely pictures painted by the lyric. Nice skirmish!
@misterdemp Feb 2022
Great scene and ideas. Pulls us in and I find I love this mystery with the pay off/explanation with the bridge toward the end. Lovely sound!
@sheslin Feb 2022
Great guitar strum. Makes me think of riding in a car. I could listen to your voice all day. I love the melodic departure in the 3rd verse. Glad you got a skirmish in this FAWM.
@crutherford Feb 2022
that last verse was a doozy.. in a very good way.
great vocal and playing.
great skirmish!
@wylddandelyon Feb 2022
I can picture the scene so clearly. The guitar, like the soft purr of the car's engine, and your voice portrays the bittersweet reflections on what happened well.
If you have another hour, I hope you'll do another skirmish!
@andrea Feb 2022
You had me hooked from the start. I was wrapped up in the lyrics and in your singing. The last verse brings it all together in a sad yet beautiful way. I love this! Amazing skirmish.
@richardmasters Feb 2022
This is a great song. The words are so visual and I really like how you skip between the breakup of a relationship and the world outside. The repetition of the 'I rolled the window down' is great - it starts to sound like a metaphor, but a new one that made me listen harder to the lyrics. It's all great - delivery really gets across a complicated feeling and it all makes for a great recording.

What a terrific skirmish song! I love how the guitar slowly opens up verse by verse. Beautiful vocals, too! Well done!
@nancycunning Feb 2022
I love your visuals from the first lines, and how you show us the scenes, but leave us to fill in some of the details about what happened to make her feel like this. Great write and singing and playing. Wow.
@corinnecurcio Feb 2022
This is excellent. Impressive as a skirmish, and just in general!
@keithcuts Feb 2022

@berni1954 Feb 2022
You had me from the opening couplet!
This is a whole short story in three verses. Great skirmish. Love your voice too!
@porrectus Feb 2022
Really nice write. Great story, well performed. Well done.
@ajna1960 Feb 2022
What a beautiful love song full of longing and bitter-sweet memories.
@tukayandryan Feb 2022
Oooh nice storytelling in this one! Like the rhythm of the guitar part too. Lovely use of repetition. Very much feels like the rolling down of the window is allowing the memories to slip away and fade.
@unknownbecky Feb 2022
Wow - what a great feel you achieved here! I love the sense of mystery here too. Great skirmish!
@kahlo2013 Feb 2022
Oh!! The guitar grabbed me right away and the strong vocals and lovely melody drew me dip in. I really love the hook and how you used it in different ways. Love this song!
@sunfire Feb 2022
Beautiful! Loved every minute of the listen.
