Two days to go and I’m not going down without a fight. But oooofff… this one was kinda hard to do. I almost considered not even posting it.
I feel the need to put a trigger warning because for anyone who has ever had their significant other betray their trust, thinking about it again can be…
well, it can bring up traumatic old feelings.
Remember that time of the eclipse
Felt so dumb, I was the last one to know of it
Everyone we knew was a stir
when
the moon turned
things dark
Both of us called in sick
brought our pin hole boxes our chairs and a blanket
found a spot on a hill
how can something so small
just block out all
the light.
how can something so small
just block out all
the light
all the light
and then done
it’s so vivid in memory still
a seemingly a pretty normal day
but it wasn’t. No, not at all
there were birds in flight and in the trees
in the branches and leaves that would mirror our view
but not their song
there was a stillness and my breath slowed, almost stopped
when
the moon turned
things dark
how can something so small
just block out all
the light.
how can something so small
just block out all
my light
all my light
and then done
i think back to that moment in our lives
an event just a sliver of star crossed madness
You said it only happened one time
that moment was nothing… meant absolutely nothing
but it did
still it blocked out all the light
meant nothing to you but it blocked
everything
to me… like
when
the moon turned
things dark
you can’t look right at
an eclipse
it’ll burn your eyes
and now everything
is viewed
through a pin hole box
remember that time of the eclipse
it’s when
the moon
turned things dark

I feel like the power of this song is how it talks around the betrayal and gives no details about it to allow the listener to fill in a specific experience. The delivery enhances that feeling and I also am glad that this one was written, while being sad for all who have had that experience.

Well, I'm sure glad you posted this one - it's wonderful! Made for guitar/vocal - so intimate and quietly powerful. The images, and the meaning you put into them, are incredible.

Flawless use of the eclipse as a metaphor. I haven't had this exact experience but the lyrics & emotion still resonate.

I feel this very deeply. I love how you have expressed this so perfectly with relatively few words. Your quiet vocals add to the feeling of utter devastation. Really touching song.

So raw and beautiful. I really love your soft vocals in this. Really gut wrenching song .. thank you for sharing

I can understand the ooofff... this is a heavy song, even though musically it's so gentle, there is a restrained passion and a depth of complex emotions. Your voice is so full of heartbreak. The metaphorical twist of the lyrics is perfect, vivid. Sad story, beautiful song <3
