I do lyrical themes every year and this year’s theme is the previous year - same theme as last year…since we seem to be on repeat.
I was originally going to write this from a gene’s-eye view of a virus. But then I got all into the internal rhymes and lost sight of any direct meaning. Still genetics…maybe? I just let the songs become what they want to become. And sometimes what they want to become is pretentious word salads.
Grey spares in vitamin air
Look what I happened upon
Down stairs in a swirling of heirs
Anything may be turned on
Old town’s left drifters around
Look what I happened upon
Same clowns still assuming their crowns
Everything’s gotta get gone
Dark twain’s collective refrain
Look what I happened upon
As plain as the day I became
Everything’s gonna get better
I’m telling you now
Spin threads ’til the storyline’s dead
Look what I happened upon
Notes read in a schoolmaster’s stead
Everything held as a secret
I’m telling you now

I like the impressionistic feel to the lyric and that chord structure and melody is just great. I'd listen to an album of this sort of thing.
