@vomvorton - zecoop sent me a track earlier in the month that I couldn't seem to get started with, although I think it was just that my brain hadn't started firing out words rather than the track itself. That one went elsewhere, but this other track dropped into my inbox yesterday and apparently my brain is fully operational now as it didn't take long for words to start appearing! I kinda wanted to do something a bit Go Team!-esque with the chanted numbers, that's not an easy sound to emulate but perhaps that inspiration is interesting, I don't know! Anyway for some reason I ended up writing kinda about toxic relationships I guess? But the lyrics are a bit stream-of-consciousness really. Anyway, cheers @zecoop!
ZeCoop: This is a song that had been around in my folders for a while, and I had forgotten what I had actually recorded. I did this song on my Tascam 8-track cassette deck and when I listened back, I actually loved it. It was very different than anything else I did this year, so I sent it over to Vom as a very last minute possibility. I'm so glad that his brain is back on lyric mode - this one was another great surprise! I loved the cheer/chant sections (you nailed it - sounds amazing) and the whole thing adds to the mysterious vibe. Fantastic guitar solo too (or IS it a guitar?!?) - I love it when people take that duty from me! Vom is such an incredibly versatile songwriter and I am honored to be able to team up! Another amazing collaboration experience and yet another new style that we had not really covered before. Wins all around. Cheers!!!
(so that I remember, here's what ZeCoop played)
Epiphone Les Paul into a 1970 Traynor YGM-3 amp
Peavey Fury bass with tape wound strings and a foam pad under the strings
1973 Ludwig Hollywood drum kit.
Recorded onto a Tascam 488mkII without a click. (but added a ton of my own clicks, haha)
here's what Vom played:
Gretsch Streamliner though Big Muff Nano
...erm, singing
1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8
never could say no to you
even when I needed a break
I fake it but you know it's true
I've been sleeping with one eye awake
took my heart and you want more
joke's on you I still think you're great
lying shaking on the floor
living on tectonic plates
got me wrapped around your finger
tight enough to feel the strain
bruises on my heart may linger
but still I'm smiling through the pain
now you call me when you’re lonely
asking me for one more chance
baby you’re my one and only
and I was saving you this dance
@leepat Mar 2022
this is quite funky actually.
love the tremoloed guitar arpeggio and the bass (and the clicks)
also the "wrapped around your finger" stanza, one eye awake, tectonic plates - great images.
well done, guys

Excellent collab - super-catchy and memorable, and those guitars! I dig the vocal, too - and a big yes to falsetto at the end.
@ampersandman Mar 2022
Great collab! The 1 2 3 4 shouts are so effective, they just draw you in as a listener. I’m always up for nice tremolo guitars, I love them in this tune. Vom’s vocal performance is super cool too, they have a great variety.
I only hoped for the song to move into a dancey four-to-the-floor beat at some point which didn’t happen, but maybe that’s an idea for a further iteration.

@vomvorton
@zecoop
oh that twangy tremolo guitar!! instant like...
production is good, i have no idea how you produce so much music so quickly...
there's a quiet squeaking sound in the left channel - is it the hi-hat pedal? that's so cool, and something you can hear in one of the sun city girl's recordings :)
your track somehow reminds me of arctic monkeys - i think it's the dead cool vocal delivery combined with that groove.
good work!!
@kiffa Mar 2022
This is a lot of fun! I like that each line in the chorus rhymes with the count-out line that precedes it (1-2-3-4/took my heart and you want more). Even if they hadn't, the chorus still would've sounded "right", what with 'more' rhyming with 'floor', but the extra step taken there to rhyme the count-outs is a sneaky bonus that I think a lot of writers wouldn't have even thought to do. Kudos to @zecoop for a great backing track to work with, I'm really digging that bass in the chorus.
@adforperu Mar 2022
Ooo, some tasty clicky percussion here. And yes, the counting is mega infectious. Cool that the Go-Team were an inspiration but it sounds nothing like them - that's the best way to steal ideas ;)

"joke's on you I still think you're great
lying shaking on the floor
living on tectonic plates"
You been reading my diary?! This is my story, fellows :-) Thank you for printing it and making it groovy - born on tape no less! Love the clicky stick-work as the driving factor in the rhythm groove. Digging the way the bass is dancing with the spaces around the singer and other elements.
"I was saving you this dance" placed at the final spot is a lyric with very, very sharp teeth. We get that you'll be saving them the next dance, and the next one, too.
@balancelost Mar 2022
Really cool vibe on this one. The clicky unconventional drum pattern driving it along is off the hook, and those tremolo laden guitars are super rich, kinda reminds me of New Adventures-era REM for some reason. Vom's lyrics are needle-sharp as always and insanely hooky. I love how you take inspiration from one band and then it goes in a totally unique direction.
@owl Mar 2022
Great collab! The shimmery tremolo guitar over the jittery beat and tight bass sounds excellent. The shouted counting stuff works super well with those brisk main lyrics (some Parquet Court vibes) and the fuzzy solo is super fun.
@paulh1237 Feb 2022
Vocals sounding especially good on this! Really like how it strips back and the vocals and bass licks get to shine! The chorus hook "living on tectonic plates" is great and the number chants definatelyyy work!
@mosley Feb 2022
Nice collaboration! I always dig ZeCoop tracks, and Vom is such a cool singer, this is great
@gilhari Feb 2022
I love the clean straightforward lyrics and music… they work together to deliver a quick punch. Title is super cool establishing a compelling metaphor.
@logrinn Feb 2022
I agree, this is seriously groovy.
I hear some Thomas Dolby vibes in this.
Very cool tremolo on that guitar.
@loveonamixtape Feb 2022
Y'all this is groovy as hell! Super cool track from @zecoop ,love that beat and those arpeggios and an excellent vocal performance and set of lyrics from @vomvorton .
@tuneslayer Feb 2022
I love the production on this!
@nadine Feb 2022
Oh yes I hear The Go! Team. Man I haven't heard this rhythmic heavy indie rock with cheerleader singing for more than 10 years. D'you still remember the British Indie rock wave in the early 2000s?!
However. Cool beat. If I turn the monitors a bit louder, the techtonic plates will start to shake. Just for the record... You're doing most of the beat with the drumsticks?! Or how exactly? Sorry to bother you with technical stuff, I soak this up like a sponge.
@sapient Feb 2022
Yeah, this is the business!
Great lyrics and a super strong toe-tapping groove.
Nice work gents! :D
@ajna1960 Feb 2022
Great lyrics !!! Love the tectonic plates ref, fits perfectly in a situation like this.
I like the overall sound and vibe a lot. Very good.
