I was trying to guess what the prompt would be. I guessed Comfort Food, and I was awfully close. Been thinking I wanted to write a food song since I listened to @carleybaer's amazing Ham and Rolls song here: https://fawm.org/songs/134069/
Thank you @ajna1960 for the theme: Sausages

The first verse is autobiographical. The name cathead biscuits comes from someone else's FAWM song, but I wasn't able to find it by searching....
Music welcome, and feel free to change girl to boy or man or whatever you like, just please don't make your gravy with beef.
Like Sausage Gravy
They got a restaurant right here in New York City
They call it Good Enough to Eat
You took me there for breakfast
Well it sounded like a real big treat
Til I ordered their Biscuits and Gravy
God, that Gravy was made with beef
Now, I love you like Sausage Gravy
Tomatoes sliced up on the side
But the thing's your people cook up
It's enough to make a grown girl cry
Ground beef's all right for meat loaf
Enchiladas and Sloppy Joe's
But ground beef in your gravy's
Like cracking your poor baby's toes
There's nothing like Biscuits and Gravy
But not, beef, no beef, please no
Now, I love you like Sausage Gravy
Tomatoes sliced up on the side
But the thing's your people cook up
It's enough to make a grown girl cry
In December we'll go visit Mama
She'll give you a butcherin' gig
She'll make you her cathead biscuits
Every one of 'em is this big
She'll smother 'em with gravy
Gravy made from a pig
Now, I love you like Sausage Gravy
Tomatoes sliced up on the side
But the thing's your people cook up
It's enough to make a grown girl cry

Well these are some mighty fine lyrics! And the message is damn sure spot on! I mean, what kind of monster puts beef where sausage is supposed to go? Sausage gravy was and is my favorite breakfast food. And you have captured it's importance quite well in this fun song!

"GROUND BEEF IN YOUR GRAVY" horror horror! I'd drop that date and RUN! Mind you, I always had trouble with US cuisine, if there is such a thing.
@bradbrubaker Mar 2022
Oh, heck, no. Gotta be pork. Ground beef? Oh, heck, no.
"Like cracking your poor baby's toes" - I'm not sure what this line means, but it sounds painful!

I love your chorus! NO beef in that gravy! I love where you went with this prompt Nancy. 3rd verse sums it up so well. Going to the source and learning how it's done. Great write, and wow...congrats on a stellar output this season!

Ha this is great! My wife is from there south and the first time I saw her order biscuits with thick whitish sausage gravy it seemed so gross! I had never witnessed anyone eating that before. What was even worse though is that on our first Thanksgiving she made gravy and there were Turkey organ body parts floating around in it! The food culture differences in our country are quirky and fun and your love song captures that well!

Now I'm *really* hungry. Love the details and the imagery of the cathead biscuits. The last two lines of the refrain seem like they might carry a double meaning -- that home-cooked food might bring some painful memories along with the sweet ones? A keeper for sure.

Biscuits and gravy is something I wouldn't put together, but I know it's an american thing. Some interesting images, but what the heck is sausage gravy??
@ajna1960 Feb 2022
Quite the American menu ! This prompt is taking around the planet via food. We've had England, Australia and now the USA.
Your biscuits are what we call scones, made with the same mixture. I was in the states once and was force fed biscuits n gravy.... I was not impressed lol
Rather sorry for the poor baby ! Love the song and it would be great to hear it sung.
@downburst Feb 2022
Well, now I'm hungry. You are 100% correct on beef gravy. It has its place, I guess, but not on biscuits, for god's sake.
I'm a little curious about the tomatoes though. With biscuits and gravy? What a concept. Worth a try!
