I've had this the chorus floating around for awhile. Wrote the rest of the lyrics, chords and melody this morning. One and done, imperfect, recorded on my phone. Please forgive the inconsistent strumming (that will come with practice!)
I Can't Stop the Rain
V1
Shouldn't have been so hard, thought it would be easy
Just pack up and go, that you'd release me
Make my escape from the ties that bind
To be free from the fear, but danger lurks behind
V2
Headed for the dry, lonely desert sand
No one else around, but I feel the devil's hand
Got my fortune told, I was hanging on a limb
Her eyes grew wide, she said, “Honey, can you swim?”
CH
And I hold my breath as the water rises
I made my bed, said no compromises
When there's nothing left, should be no more surprises
But It's a deadly game cuz I can't stop the rain
V3
Big open range, the sun was shining hot
When a cloud appeared, and I felt a drop
There's no higher ground, emotions in my blood
When I heard the hoofbeats running from the flood
CH
BRIDGE
I saw you in every window
I felt you in every shadow
Change of scenery only made it worse
You keep running through my brain
Like thunder, lightning, rain
I'm haunted with your curse
Break
CH x 2

Great chorus Margo! The internal bed/said rhyme is a nice touch. I also like the "hoofbeats" line, which paints a vivid visual/aural picture. Really like the way the bridge works, too. "You keep running through my brain/Like thunder, lightning, rain" is particularly memorable. Great stuff! [FYI, I'm a fellow Camp Copperhead alum, 2017]

Love the blues inflection that you bring to this piece! The syncopation in the chorus hits so hard, and the tonal center/tuning is just perfect. Great lyric writing too! Thanks for sharing!
