My wife and I sat down to write our final FAWM song - we did a random wikipedia search and it came up with an 80s children's novel called 'The Morning After The Bomb' about a nuclear strike on America and its aftermath, so we wrote a song about that.
Tonight the sky's on fire
As we drive through the desert sands
Fate ignored if you were a fool or a liar
Darling wont you take my hand
Me and you, we'll roam forever
The morning after the bomb
You and I will love forever
The morning after the bomb
All the streets are filled with people
Looking for a place to go
People just keep flagging me down
But I just have to say no
There's checkpoints at every corner
Trying to turn me away
There's a thread from me to you
And i'll follow it come what may
You and me...
We'll drive on through
Tomorrow's still unknown
Keep driving through
If we're together, we've found our home

This is a bit dark. And quite poignant at the moment. Music sounds uplifting but then you hear the words and it is.... well, actually, still a bit uplifting, considering the last chorus.

@regis hah, thanks for the feedback! 'Threads' did cross my mind as I was making this song - famously, I once made my (then to be future) wife watch it on Valentine's day. It's a wonder we got married at all..

Gah, the "thread from me to you" line is giving me "Threads" flashbacks.
Existential dread aside, this is lovely - seconding the praise for "If we're together, we've found our home."

really love how deceptive this is.
seemingly lighthearted until you listen to the words..
that's my kind of songwriting
also, i love this line: If we're together, we've found our home
well done, jack! well done!
well done. really really well done.

Nice. Well done.

Well, this feels terrifyingly appropriate this week. :( Nice song, anyway.
