I wrote this after seeing a video of a father in Ukraine putting a hat on his young daughters' head, then sobbing and hugging her as he sent her away to safety.
I hope to set this to music sometime if no one else does.

The bare-chested braggart puffs and preens
Before official T.V. screens
Devising lies that might placate
The grumblings of a restless state
A girl is taken from her bed
Dad pulls her hat down on her head,
Zips her jacket, hugs her tight,
Then sends her fleeing in the night
It's World War II all over again
Another madman plans his reign
We must not let Ukraine fall
He'll first take one, and then take all
It started this way once before
With just one country, then with more
The line is drawn, we stand and fight
Freedom means protecting what is right
Buildings that once sheltered homes
Now, burned and broken, empty bones
Tanks rumble through deserted streets
To echoes of gunfire repeats
A vibrant city, ghostly grey
As the marauders make their way
Brave citizens vowed to defend
Their homeland, till the very end
It's World War II all over again
Another madman plans his reign
We must not let Ukraine fall
He'll first take one, and then take all
It started this way once before
With just one country, then with more
The line is drawn, we stand and fight
Freedom means protecting what is right

passionate and powerful lyric, and yes, you should set this to music. So glad that so many have also done really powerful songs about Ukraine this past month!

I really sincerely hope that it is not World War II all over again! Strong protest lyric, as mikeb said. Good writing.

A strong protest lyric. I like the closing lines of the chorus "The line is drawn, we stand and fight/Freedom means protecting what is right" - good job!

Really strong chorus on this one. I like all the visuals. Yes, this could make a very powerful song.
