Feb 2022 folk picking guitar contemplative portrait picture
An observational one, I think
The eyes are hidden by the brim of the hat
An air of superiority there
Gazing out to the left, ignoring the artist ahead
Hand draped lazily against the armrest
Furs around a covered neck
Chinese vase on the mantelpiece
Reflected in the mirror
Gilt and gold and highly polished
Walls of handmade paper
What were you thinking?
What was your obligation?
Was it for status or something else?
I wonder where your thoughts roamed
Captured forever on the canvas

I’m glad I found this! Folk style picking on electric has a plaintive or thoughtful quality that is unique, and it fits these words perfectly. I was immediately drawn in by the melody of the first line, a strong entry that promises an interestin song. This is a deep subject that I’ve not heard much. Most art criticism focuses on what the artist was thinking or attempting or capturing. But what about the sitter? Made me stop and think.

Lovely work. The guitar and vocal paint a vivid picture (didn't actually mean to do that) in this reflection on a portrait.
