When I saw the four-chord loop challenge I realised that was my best chance to get one more done this year!
I tell you that all will be ok
But I don’t believe a word I say
What have we become?
A product of what should have never begun
Do I hide the truth away from you?
Regret like a hangover
That you can’t shift no matter how you try
Get it in the ear, take it on the chin
Or get one in the eye
How can you be blown off course
If you don’t know where to go?
Like ants marching back & forth
An endless to and fro

"but I don't believe a word I say," SO relatable.
The nouns in this lyric are coming from, or pointing to, various different directions. Product, truth, hangover, body parts triplet of ear/chin/eye, something that can be blown off course, and then the ants that relate to the title line.

I do love a good Dan falsetto shift. Enjoyed this a lot, the slightly unresolved feel to those four chords. Quality work from you as always this year.

There's something that reminds me of 'Air' with the tonal choices here, and the ever rolling chord loop. Love all the call and responses with the vocals. Interesting how the hi hats/ride have a straighter feel than the chord strumming, which gives it a bit more momentum with the slower tempo.
Nice that we got another few numbers out of you late this month. Sorry we didn't get the chance to collab! I left it too late to start thinking about collabs this year. Always next year!

Oooh, love the feel to this. It sounds like you co-wrote it with Jacques Brel! That harmonised parts are ace and (as you know) I'm a sucker for a bit of Rhodes. I want more chanson style songs from you!

Ooh, but those four chords! I love the jazzy melodies/piano bits here, it sounds just lovely. Vocals are wonderful as ever, those backing vocals are so lush. And a waltz!!

Haha you managed to make a simple four-chord loop unpredictable and interesting, yet still so accessible. Love the lyrics, esp the first two lines, gold. Oohs are just gorgeous

A lot of your songs have a pleasingly anachronistic, or even European feel to them. This sounds like it could belong in the first half of the twentieth century, perhaps in a Parisian cafe bar. If you always admire my lyrics, I admire your ability to craft a melody in tricky harmonic surroundings! This is very well done: the ear, chin, eye is an admirable piece of songcraft. Kudos

The jazzy rhodes is jumping out at me here, the slamming chords in the choruses and that lead line in the verses that continues over the outro. Vocals are strong as ever, you really carry a great melody on this one over that progression.

I love how the sound fills out and swells for the 2nd "regret like a hangover" verse. A lovely choice of 4 chords too! The waltz feel really suits the lyrics (like ants marching back an forth an endless to and fro is a great lyrics - definately song title worthy!).

Such interesting chords... and the layers of vocals and instruments are lush and unexpected. There's so much to listen to here!
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Love the waltzy drums and the jazzy piano playing is lush! Glad you got one more in, this is really nice!

Ya cheeky mare! :D
Hehe, well done on squeezing another out, a very tasty nihilistic waltz no less. Sounds beautiful as I have come to expect, glad you made another!
