I heard @eargoggle playing double bass on the brilliant song Rosetta Stone, and I thought hmm it would be cool to do a song with double bass cos it just sounded so good. So I got in touch. And very generously I was provided with a brilliant jamming session of double bass to play with. I found at least 6 or 7 sections that I could have made a song with but this one came together the quickest, and y'know, FAWM etc....
It still was not quite working for me, until I roped in another collaborator, my 12 year old daughter! I'm a bit biassed but I think she has a beautiful tone to her voice, and this just reminded me of old 90s hip hop choruses with the likes Vinja Mohica etc....
And so here it is, thanks both for your generous contributions!
First you say you will
Then you say you won't
Then you say you do
Then you say you don't
What's wit the confusion
You're messing with my mind
Clarity is so hard to find
First you say you did not
Then you say you did
Then you say come find me
And then you say you hid
What's with the confusion
I don't understand
Is this just chaos, or planned?
All the time
You and me
Go round and round in circles
Cos we got no place to be

Love the grove as the stage for the great vocals. Great development of the concept in the lyrics and very effective chorus/hook.

The round and round and round in circles is very effective. The whole song feels like it was designed to begin with, not a jam-derived. So pretty good!

Great jam! The mellow and melodic bass, your laid-back voice, the youthful tone of your daughter's voice -- it all comes together for a relaxed, carefree but intensely satisfying groove.

You had me at Boom Bap! Instantly feels like a hit.
So chill and grooving. The vocals kinda remind me of how Prince sings, half rapped, half sung, all funky! Love the use of double bass too, instantly had me thinking of Tribe Called Quest's "Can I kick it", works so well.
Amazing vocals from your daughter too, sounds a lot more mature vocally, really sweet tone!

That chorus is such an earworm! Your daughter's kind of upstaging you here too. Not sure I'd have her on that much more stuff after this! ;) That bit has a Lily Allen feel (hope that's ok, it's that almost nursery rhyme feel to the melody I think). Great overall sound, laid back, stoner hip hop, really cool. And having the double bass in there makes it feel really special. Good work, my man.

I really enjoyed this one. Love the upright bass and hip-hop feel of this. The verses almost had a Beck kind of feel to it. The chorus is really great! I especially like the choice of note in the melody for "time" which really adds to the flavor.

What a treat to jam out on my upright bass for a bit, send it to @fonte and have it turned into a total banger like this!! I love it. Love the chorus vocals, your daughter sounds amazing!

Wooooooo this is so cool! The bass and drum intro sets the stage perfectly. Digging the verses. And your daughter has a great voice on this Chorus! Have to hear her on more songs.

This is such a fun listen! I love the guitar and keys on this especially, and the layered vocals in the chorus!
