Feb 2022 folk acoustic ballad collab
Wacha Says - @mctown reached out to me about a possible collaboration between him, @vaughan, and me. I liked both songs that were up for grabs but this one spoke to me a little more. I normally try to do more than rough demos for my collabs but we are coming down to the wire. I hope to be able to develop this one more after FAWM.
She Taught Cupid How To Shoot
David L. Graham/Vaughan Ray Daniel
Arrangement by Catherine Wacha
If she wants you in her life
You won't change her mind
There's really nothing you can do
Just let her have her way
'cause there ain't no escape
She's the one who taught Cupid how to shoot
It won't do no good to run
You aren't fast enough
And there ain't a wall she can't see through
Once those arrows start to fly
You can kiss your heart goodbye
She's the one who taught Cupid how to shoot
bridge:
Everyone is the best at somethin'
At least that's what they try to be
She's the best when it comes to lovin'
You won't get away if you've got what she needs
tag: You just wait and see
Give her just one kiss
And you'll suddenly give in
There's no way she’ll ever let you loose
If she's aimin' for love
It'll be a bull's eye because
She’s the one who taught Cupid how to shoot

This is delicious. The vocal melody trippy-tripping downwards from the onset of the first lines gives is unique.
I agree with the folks who already said about not imaging how you could improve this recording. I can hear every fibre of the guitar vibrating and everything has exactly the amount of space it needs to sparkle, including the lyrics too.

What a great line, and the guitar and vocals bring it all home. Great collaboration.

Really nice and original rhythm for the guitar picking. I know you’ve described this as a rough demo but your voice is sounding really nice in this, a really clear mix. These lyrics are excellent, I love that tag/title of ‘She taught Cupid how to shoot’ such a clever line that describes so much in one shot phrase. I love the idea of such an almost formidable participant in love. Wonderful song and I love how you’ve interpreted it musically, I particularly like the descending vocal melody in the verses.

The recording and mix is sooooooooooooo good that I really don't know what you would like to change after FAWM. The full magic is in these lyrics, the acoustic guitar and singing. If you really want to add something, maybe a harmonica. But it's good as is.

So wonderful to see three of my friends working together and achieving wonderful results! I love the way @wacha brought these charming lyrics to life.

Thanks for working on it, wacha and Vaughan. I enjoyed hearing it. Great job. Thanks for listens and comments. I too can imagine that fuller sound, but the guitar work is very cool.

Really nice arrangement. The guitar and vocals fit the lyrics perfectly. I loved the picking pattern.
The lyrics were great!! Making Cupid an afterthought in this song was brilliant!

Love that guitar progression with the little embellishments and the percussive slap. Great vocal performance. Such a great lyrical concept too. McTown sure knows how to write good songs. Excellent work!

These are great lyrics. I feel like I know this woman! And I love the guitar riff and melody Catherine brought to this song. Lovely vocals on this - this is really well done!

Everyone's the best at something/at least their trying to be
great line.
Great vocals. This is a really fun project. Really looking forward to the spiced up version in March.
