When we met, I had given up on dating.
You made me feel I was hallucinating,
as if I’d taken some hallucinogen
and seeing you was luckiest of men,
and I who deemed myself a washed up relic
began a trip as from a psychedelic
that made reality like fabric rip.
With you, I want to take a life-long trip.
The unexpected love which we are in
surpasses for our minds all medicine.
Because my trains of loaded thoughts derail,
and states of mind are slippery and frail,
we’ve touched in conversations on the topic
of medicines considered psychotropic.
Though I’ve not had much luck with any pill
with all but their adverse effects as nil;
for mental health, though it may sound audacious,
more so than any pill, you’re efficacious.
The unexpected love which we are in
surpasses for our minds all medicine.
For helping neurons, branching like a tree,
there’s little help found in psychiatry:
For woes we can’t with finite words describe,
love beats all medicines it can prescribe.
Though maybe if I micro-dosed a fungi,
I’d be for you more of a fun guy,
assisted by a bit of psilocybin
to be more jovial than I’ve been.
The unexpected love which we are in
surpasses for our minds all medicine.
