The writing prompt was comparison.
Now you might be in Gibraltar
You might be in Spain
You might be in a fishing boat
Might be sitting on a plane
You might be in wireless range
Or you might be out of reach
You might be speaking in parliament
Might be lying on the beach
(chorus)
Don’t compare yourself to anybody
You’re not like anybody else
You’re exactly where you’re meant to be
And you know that yourself
Sometimes it might be lonely
But you are on your own journey
Exactly where you’re meant to be
Now you might play the fiddle
You might play the guitar
You might be in the cheap seats
Or you might be the star
You might be in a crowded room
You might be asleep in bed
The next time you walk through fire
Remember what I said
(chorus)
Now you might be winning prizes
You might be losing hope
You might be under pressure
But you might know how to cope
You might be at the beginning
Or you might be at the end
You might be someone’s kryptonite
And you might be someone’s friend
(chorus)
You might be looking at a camera
Or looking into a person’s eyes
You might be seeing icicles
Might be seeing fireflies
You might be telling your story
You might not know what to say
You might be on the doorstep
Might be half a world away
(chorus)

Vivid images, cool rhymes in the lyrics. The guitar/vocal directness and the video make this song very personal to me, and I bet to others, too. A strong beginning-of-the-week message!

Wonderful message and I like the examples you use in the verses. A great take on the prompt that really resonates with me right now. Nice!

Thanks @kathym for the support. To answer your curiosity, my album this month follows a theme of manifesting. “You are exactly where you’re meant to be” is a commonly repeated phrase in these circles along with the caution about getting discouraged by comparing your results to others’, and so that is the point I tried to make throughout. I wanted to start with a well-known place name to bring up the “where” in the title. Most of the details of place come from a novel I drafted last year, where much of the story was in Spain. Spain is easy to rhyme too! To contrast with Spain I wanted a nearby place of three syllables accented on the second. It could have been Morocco but Gibraltar had a larger energy when I sang it and came out more easily. But that is only the way I remember it, and I could have been guided by spirit. Of course if someone wanted to sing “Moscow” and “Ukraine” instead it would still be the same song!

I love how this prompt is generating list songs in this case a lot of items that light up my synapses with associated memories. Definitely has a rocker vibe and I like the low key delivery. Well done and thanks for playing!

I read the lyrics first - and also the comments ( normally I never do that!!)
I agree that Gibraltar is a weird one but if you’re like me the song starts itself ( sometimes I cull the bits at the beginning or end ) . Some great lines .
I will say that again - I really like some of the lines. I could imagine a digital upbeat version of this!!

I love that slow, slow strum with the relentless lyrics. Such a reassuring message delivered with gentle confidence. The lines stay conversational all the way through, and that helped the lyrics really land for me. And the video feels like a how to manual on how to strum. Great work.

Very important message in this song. I like how you have loads of different comparisons, all equally important for us all :)
I agree with Odilon about the semi hypnotic vibe of the vocals, melody and slowly strummed guitar underneath.

I love these lyrics. I can't help but wonder what the inspiration was to take it where it started in specific countries. It's impossible not to think of the heroes who are rising up in Ukraine to meet their destiny (the soldier who gave his life destroying the bridge, the Miss Universe beauty queen who has taken up her weapon to protect others, the leader of the country who has stepped out into the street with his people), though certainly these words are for anyone who needs to hear them.
I'm going to keep a copy of these lyrics if you don't mind, so I can keep this specific collection of words together and available because I like it that much.
This song works as is, but I can easily hear it performed as rock, hiphop, or jazz. The message is timeless and it should be heard by many, many people. Congratulations on this one!

There's a relentless drive and force to this that drives home the single-minded, unfortunate focus that jealousy can cause and reinforces the "Don't compare yourself" message of the chorus. A hypnotizing, very cool listen!
