I made it to the end!
How It Ends
Mike Delaney, FAWM22-14
It seems like every year is hotter than the last
Mega storms getting bigger and colder arctic blasts
King tides, parching droughts, and frequent flooding
So clear now, why didn’t we see it coming?
We can no longer close our eyes and pretend
But I won’t be here to see how it ends
Chorus:
I wonder how it ends
Will we fix the downward trends?
I have a finite time on earth
Is that a blessing or a curse?
(I can’t see around the bend)
And I won’t be here to see how it ends
They’re fighting with school committees and shouting at librarians
Banning books and women’s health; they’re dystopian contrarians
They pick on the weak, how they dress or what pronouns they use
But then they say they don’t want mandates or be told what to do
I’m concerned which way the arc of history bends
But I won’t be here to see how it ends
Chorus
Five thousand miles away on Oahu I have a new granddaughter
And I’m afraid her world is going to keep getting meaner and hotter
What will her life be like as she grows up and takes charge?
Will things improve or her struggles be large
I’ll be gone before she’s old; I won’t see if humanity mends
And I won’t be here to see how it ends
Bridge:
Maybe every generation feels this way
Only here for a brief time and like dust we blow away
Tough bluff stuff fluff huff
And/But have I done enough?
Chorus
Tag: No, I won’t be here to see how it ends

Cool song, Mike. Same here, by the way but I do think the new millenial generation coming up is a good one and the jerks are an aberration.

An appropriately titled song for your final(?) FAWM song. Congrats on making it to 14! I love the instrumental bit at the end. I like the questioning in the bridge about whether every generational thinks everything is falling apart, and the long perspective is a good one (and, yes, we really are ruining this place . . .)
