A little out of my comfort zone this one but...rock is what came to me when I read this lyric. Would be nice with a male rock style vocal instead of my folk/country voice...Great lyrics from Arthur, who kindly let me have a go at this even though there is already a great version of this lyric by Berni
All seemed so simple and so clear
when we were just kids, my dear,
it was a simple world of black and white…
Glad was glad and sad was sad,
good was good and bad was bad,
all those shades of gray, they were out of sight…
(Chorus)
I walk the line…
virtues, blunders, they´re sublime…
like a sign upon a time,
I do fine… oh, I do fine…
walking down the line…
walking… walking down the line…
walking down the line…
Once I cared what´s wrong, what´s right,
long ago I lost that fight,
and with you, I gonna lose it again…
I don´t care now what I do,
red is red and blue feels blue,
and green´s one I forgot, my friend…
(Chorus)
I walk the line…
it can´t make my hope decline,
eight´s not nine, a dime´s a dime,
and that´s fine… oh, I do fine…
walking down the line…
walking… walking down the line…
walking down the line…
On Our line on that we walked
was a line just drawn with chalk,
washed away by rain… washed away by rain…
We had our dreams, we had an aim:
make a difference, change the game!
and now look at what we have become…
(Chorus)
I walk the line…
wine is wine, a shrine´s a shrine,
left and right no friends of mine,
but that´s fine… oh, I do fine…
walking down the line…
walking… walking down the line…
walking down the line…

A great classic-sounding song! Love the rapid-fire lyrics with the short phrases echoing each other, and that's a cracking chorus melody. Touch of Dolly Parton about your vocals here, which actually goes really well with the major-key rock 'n' roll sound.
