Feb 2022 fun jazzy swing whistle
I started FAWM in 2011 writing songs with my dad's lyrics. I had decided to do FAWM in Dec 2010 and in January 2011 he wrote his first lyric and just kept writing! I wrote songs with lots of people, but there's nothing like writing songs with your dad! :)
This song was written based on his original lyric which you can find here: "Song of the Day" https://fawm.org/songs/135046/ which was very fun to read and immediately had me playing this guitar riff. Five hours later... ;)
As is normal for me, I had to make some adjustments to the original lyric to sing it in the song I wrote. But most of the lyrics are the same. I changed one of the verses into a chorus and another intro a bridge (as I often do) and changed a few syllables. I also changed the last line of the chorus, because no matter how I tried, I could not find a way to sing the Happy Birthday part until the end. I think it worked nicely! :)
This was a VERY fun song that took on a life of its own. I thought it was going to be a one guitar and one vocal song, but the song told me otherwise - which is why I am still up at 1:49am. ;)
Thanks for another amazing lyric, dad!!!
I played:
Breedlove Atlas Stage 6 string acoustic
1966 Silvertone 604 6 string acoustic Parlor guitar
Dean EAB acoustic bass
Snare drum with brushes (vintage Yamaha 6.5" steel)
Every morning
When I jump out of bed
The song of the day
Comes into my head
It may be old
It may be new
Might know the words
Or might know only a few
Chorus:
It might be Yellow Submarine
Or the Road to Mandalay
She'll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain
Or could it be your special day
The Sidewalks of Peoria
Could come into my mind
Or a snappy modern song
That I have chanced to find
From Ave Maria
To Anchors Away
The songs keep coming
They just don’t miss a day
Chorus:
It might be Yellow Submarine
Or the Road to Mandalay
She'll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain
Or could it be your special day
Bridge:
I guess it could be
A whole lot worse
Hang around and
I’ll sing you a verse
Chorus:
It might be Yellow Submarine
Or the Road to Mandalay
She'll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain
Or could it be your special day - Happy Birthday

Great lyrics! Production & instrumentation fits perfectly. Excellent bridge.

Ah... can't get that bass line out of my head! The chorus really picks up something fierce. It is impossible to listen to this song and hold still. Love the flurry of allusions in the lyrics. Best wishes to both of you!

Such a cool instrumentation that completely underline these lyrics. Love the whistling... and what mute playing on a acoustic guitar not sounding completely awkward? A bassline going up and not down? Guess this is my song of the day. But you're damn right about the songs played in radio. I only miss the Summer of 69. Or Last Christmas. My alltime favourites /sarcasm.

I have many mornings like this. What a great write with such nice old songs referenced. I loved the idea for this song and the upbeat, foot tapping melody and production suits it really well and I enjoyed singing a harmony along with this, it brought me great joy! Great Collab of the heart!!

Great subject matter!! (I’ve been trying to get that “fancy like” Applebee’s song out of my head that I only know one line to already this morning)
I loved the happy music. Had me head bobbin from the get go. Great job you two.

Now I have another song to get in my head. Really nice, John, and worth your early morning efforts. Doing songs with you has been a highlight of each year since we began this in 2011. We have travelled everywhere from the Gayety Burlesque to putting on Chucks. It has been a fun ride.

I love it! Great Collab!

infectious instrumentation, that bass sounds lush.
Splendid collab - your delivery has really brought the lyrics alive!
And the bridge is just perfect.

Oh my goodness, this has me grinning from ear to ear! So worth all the extras, and I love your vocal delivery on this! More singing please! Great lyrics, great whistling, great spoken parts, great vibe throughout… did I mention it was great??!

This is really lovely. A toe-tapper for sure and great interpretation of the lyrics. Great collaboration!
