You sit in the corner every night
watching me float 'round the room
satisfied to rest in the company
of bourbon and faded perfume
You've outgrown kissing and telling
you're not one for jealous to-do's
'cause I might dance the two-step
with a stranger or two
but I'm going home with you
Many a year I found relief
by keeping my heart on a shelf
'til I found someone to hold it steady
while I look out for myself
You've outgrown kissing and telling
a misfire won't light your fuse
I might lean on the bar
get offered a few
but I'm going home with you
You're done turning backflips
flirting with hardship
done chasing volatile highs
you know there ain't nothing
that keeps me coming
like seeing the fire in your eyes
You've outgrown kissing and telling
you know how it feels to lose
while I might offer smiles
to those who are blue
you know I'm going home with you
you know I'm going home with you

When you can do something so unadorned and stripped back as this AND it sounds stunning… well, you’re pretty damn good at this music thing! I know this sounds weird given it’s you singing, but I can almost imagine this being a Tom Waits song, it’s got that sort of timeless melody. just very classy, well done!

This is a beautiful song. Your singing is lovely as is the sentiment of the lyrics. I quite like the simple production. Really enjoyed listening…

slight tangent, but I like the look of that bridge! Ok, the song..
I am no country expert, but this appears to have all the hallmarks of a great country song, not the super-polished version that I'd tend to hear without delving in any further. Lyrics are incredibly evocative, right from the first line.

This is gold. I have always loved your melodic sense, but this is particularly sublime. Such tender and honest lyrics delivered with casual brilliance. One of my favorites of yours to be sure.

I've enjoyed all the different styles you sung this FAWM (man, so versatile!) but I have to admit I love it when you write a lowkey country song. This one is a beautiful depiction of a mature relationship. The reassuring and tenderness in the words are brought wonderfully to life by your vocal performance, as ever.

Beautiful vocals! Great imagery throughout and lots of great lines. Timeless and wonderful.
@mariekevinkmusic Feb 2022
Goodness. This is great. So atmospheric. The vocals fit the song perfectly. The chorus is just *chef's kiss*

Leah, you are a remarkable lyricist and vocalist. This is incredible!! I had a movie in my head throughout this entire song. So good!!
@jeff9 Feb 2022
Extraordinary. It's such a difficult thing to write and perform something that could fit in almost any time period in the last 80 years or so. An artist that does that perfectly is Gillian Welch and this would fit her perfectly. But who needs her anyway--we've got Leah. Beautiful job here.
@christmascard Feb 2022
Wow, this is lovely. So great. No more compliments, but it's perfect! (ok that was one more)
@wrenarcher Feb 2022
I remember falling in love with your voice last year but holy moly!… it’s like a paradox right now. Singing so delicately so sweet but unbelievable control and strength.
Perfect for carrying these lyrics.
Reminds me of something that might be heard on O’ Brother Where Art Though and some of the old AM country stations my mom would have me listen to as she carted me to school.
It’s just wonderful Leah.
So good.
@radiobenedetto Feb 2022
Beautiful, Leah. You have such a great sense of phrasing. Like on "faded perfume", "light your fuse", "that keeps me coming" and "going home with you" Really nuanced. Some great lines in here to "a misfire won't light your fuse" , "i might lean on the bar and get offered a few but . . ." It's all working together. Great stuff again, Leah!
@guatecoop Feb 2022
I just love how personal your songs tend to be. Your melodies are in perfect step with your words. The guitar is nice and simple, which is the perfect setting for your voice. Wow, your voice is so strong and lovely. I'm so glad for you--and for US! We are lucky to hear your songs.
@tseaver Feb 2022
Nice write: the storytelling and the lovely vocal carry this pretty country waltz along perfectly. The bridge is perfect for the song.
@metalfoot Feb 2022
This is great. It's like this song was written 70 years ago and rediscovered today. I mean that in the best possible way.
@standup Feb 2022
I like that line(s) "satisfied to rest in the company
of bourbon and faded perfume". Done with the hardships and volatile highs, I hear that. We all know how it feels to lose. But it's priceless to have that person who's coming home with you...
@wolfkier Feb 2022
This is absolutely gorgeous, and that refrain really "brings it home" with a familiar warmth. Such a pleasure. Well done.
@kenmattsson Feb 2022
Beautiful song, and you perform it so well. Great lyric writing and I love the concept. I have to say that it feels to me like the title should "I'm Going Home With You" as it sort of sets the whole song up. Of course, your mileage may vary and it's your song. I really like it!
