Feb 2022 wife-collab 70s live-instruments wife-and-liz-duet oracle-challenge
guatecoop: This started early in February. When my wife heard it on the 9th, she claimed it, which I am completely in favor of. She also always participates in the oracle challenge, which ends up being spectacular. She has quite a way with my songs and with words and I love it every year when we get to do songs together. I had a bass part, but wasn't totally thrilled with it, so I asked Liz to do some bass--though she really wanted to hear the melody so that she can play off of that. Last night, we ended up getting to recording the vocals, so as soon as I had a version with the main melody, I sent it immediately to Liz so that she could start working on the bass. Well, I did say that my wife was doing vocals, but didn't say anything more. So, we completed the doubles and harmonies last night. Today, Liz sends me a double bass part--ALONG with harmonies! OH NO! Now what?!?! Well, it turns out that it was complete serendipity because Liz sang harmonies exactly where my wife didn't. I couldn't believe it. So, you get a duet, too!!! This is spectacular that it ended up like this. I couldn't be happier. Thank you SO much to Liz for the wonderful double bass part and singing. You are a lovely person with lovely creations. Always a pleasure and highlight of my FAWM each year!
I played drums, acoustic and electric guitars, and a Moog VSTi. I also FINALLY used my Leslie cabinet for the swirly guitars....yes, it really spins and I love that thing.

Such a lovely song! Thanks Rob for letting me play and I'm glad the harmonies worked out so fortuitously!
I've been up all night
Mind was glowing bright
Replaying past and present time
Always (was) searching for
Some unopened door
Was getting lost in the what for
I can't blame the blade
For the cut it made
The assault was my fault this time
Cut wood, carry water
When you're called to
And if you surrender
All that you do
Any given day
Only will give way to yesterday
Leads you away to yesterday
Leads you away to yesterday
Leads you away
Cut wood, carry water
When you're called to
And if you surrender
All that you do
Any given day
Only will give way to yesterday

Yeah, those vocals are simply amazing! Mrs. and Liz melt together like hot caramel on a sundae. And ain't that first verse the gospel truth. <3
I always like your progressions, Mr. Never quite sure what to expect, and that's the best thing ever. My ears are happy!

A really pleasant song to listen to. So well produced, dynamic, jazzy, loads of harmonies, perfect instrumentation.... Awesome job!
@crisp1 Mar 2022
Cool back story on the harmonies, which are beautiful. Love the bright '70s vibe of the music -- almost like Carole King meets America. Really nice mix of sounds woven under the very clear vocals. Wonderful collab!
@prsongsmith Mar 2022
Looove those Serendipitous harmonies, and the chorus on the guitar. Really enjoyed this one!
@richaaaay Mar 2022
Such a nice sound to this, bass, guitar tracks, drums, vocals, harmonies…the lead guitar halfway through has such a sweet sound. Just an enjoyable listen. Such a great collaboration! Thanks for sharing.
@edwardsmusic Mar 2022
The tremolo guitar, synth and standup bass are really nice, and the vocals are colourful and melodic. The harmonies are great! I especially like the second half where the lead guitar interacts with the vocals.
@nadine Mar 2022
This sounds completely awesome and reminds me a lot of "Safe Drown" from last year (which I still listen to). You completely nail this 70s oldschool vibe. These jazzy chords in the break are too cool. And these bass and... wait what Liz did the background vocals?!

What a great musical tapestry here, love the pair of vocals and the swirling guitars, with a great warm feeling via the bass. Excellent

I would go to this band's live; show and buy merch afterward. Wonderful work all around. :)

What a tender performance all around, so soothing and sweet to listen to. This came together amazingly and love your ideas for the card. I was sad to hear it end. Fantastic job on the challenge!! Thank you so much for participating, all of you!! :)

This is awesome, totally feels vintage and cool, I just love the whole thing! Incredible collaboration!
@tan482 Feb 2022
Oh I really like this! It has such a relaxed feel and the vocals are just lovely! Beautiful three-way collab - well done!
@eargoggle Feb 2022
This is so cool! Love the vocals, hooray for couples dueting! And the harmonies work so great too. The swirly guitar with the leslie sounds amazing, and I guess that's the Moog making those sweet sounds in between the lyrics, really nice. Good mix, too, everything is really present and sits just right and there's a lot going on.
@tseaver Feb 2022
Lovely collab: the fit of the different parts is splendid, indeed.
@coolparadiso Feb 2022
Really well done, the instrumentation is so tidy clean and not overdone! Excellent vocal holds the attention! Fine song. Well done in deed
@liz561 Feb 2022
What a talented couple! The flute dancing in between everything, singing and harmonies, and a lovely and breezy feel to the whole. A wonderful collaboration!
@nancyrost Feb 2022
Absolutely gorgeous! Love those harmony layers - so rich, and yet so light. Obviously you've done a great job mixing all these elements. I like the subtle swirly guitars, and always that double bass ....
@kaminokai Feb 2022
Groovy. So trippy and 70's! Love it!
