Feb 2022 hammond-organ kinda-creepy 4-track cassette analog
This song was recorded on a 4-track cassette and mailed to each participant in the order below. Each person added one track to what they heard on the tape until the song was done.
Track1 - ZeCoop, Hammond M-100 organ and mixing
Track2 - Whispermouse, Vocals
Track3 - Midway Fair (bass) and Lexabear (Djembe)
Track4 - Swampjaw, Animoog Z synth (guitar just didn't sound right)
*New mix because ZeCoop had some free time on Sunday morning. :)
Lyrics from Whispermouse
Quiet streets bake
In the light of day
When darkness comes to falling
Don't stay too late
Night and light are twins and
Not at all the same
Chill rising from the tower
The moon's first born babe
Chorus
Damned children
All branded with the mark of Cain
Night's bloodline
Never walk the light of day
Lost children
Banned forever from the blaze
Night's bloodline
Never walk the light of day

I like this. Very 60s. My guitar teacher when I took lessons when I was a teen was into british invasion stuff. He tried to teach me all that stuff, and some of it sunk in. Not much, but some of it. I think he would've liked this alot!

Yes! I am loving these 4-track tapes this year. Hammond sounds great. Nice arrangement with some alternative instrumentation. Sweet collab! Great vocal delivery and parts well played.
@nancyrost Mar 2022
I love me some Hammond organ and you're really using the power of it so set the tone.
The djembe is a particularly inspired touch. Now I want more hand percussion on four-tracks!
Excellent vocal performance, really matches the intensity of that starting Hammond organ.
Synth as solo instrument complements well - really cool shimmery sounds!
Cool instrumentation all around, sounds really tight, reminds me of "Let's Live Together" but obviously not so chill!
@orfeodream Mar 2022
You've got the psychedelic sound! Great tune!
@driftwood1 Mar 2022
This came together great. Real trippy vibe to the music and some great rock vocals. "Damned children..." killer stuff.
@yarimurray Feb 2022
Far out man! This is so trippy and cool. I love all of the textures and the mix is excellent. Late 60's early 70's psychedelia that feels authentic. Or is it just the state of mind I'm currently in. You decide. Awesome job by all!
@burrsettles Feb 2022
yeah, this has a sort of doors vibe with the organ & bass, but the sparse percussion gives it this world feel and the vocals are more... i dunno, operatic? the mix (or remix?) is great. definitely has a dark early 70s vibe to the whole thing...
@fonte Feb 2022
Oh yeah. Oh yeah. @vomvorton you're right definitely a doors vibe. Incredible vocal! Overall awesome sound and not just cos of the tape :-)
Super job on the mix! These tapes are all so freaking good! Should there be a 4 track tape compilation album. On cassette....?? @zecoop lol
@vomvorton Feb 2022
Haha wow! This is like some unearthed slightly-apocalyptic-feeling 60s track (I want to compare it to the Doors? But I do not listen to the Doors enough to know if this is anywhere near accurate) but somehow the anachronistic synth solo fits perfectly into the vibe. Really great stuff, all!
@midwayfair Feb 2022
So I have mixed thoughts about doing the 4-track thing again. Even though I've made a conscious effort in the past year to stop being so lazy about getting full takes, I still like punching in and being able to compare overdubs before committing something.
That said, this was a nice jolt of nostalgia for 2002/2003 or so for me ...
Good job everyone.
@tamsnumber4 Feb 2022
Spooky lyric, loved the instruments in this, what a great collaboration!
@bachelorb Feb 2022
I loved this!! There’s the Hammond.... I’ve been waiting for it all fawm :)
Great synth and rhythm.
The music really fit the lyrics well. Gave me the “Children of the Corn” heebie jeebies again..... I thought I was over that......
@whispermouse Feb 2022
Awesome mix @swampjaw! Everyone sounds great.
@standup Feb 2022
@midwayfair and @lexabear were both playing on that track, so it's just a groove, man. @elesimo
@standup Feb 2022
Cool organ groove, and I like the Animoog Z which doesn't seem to work on my system. Djembe is a nice addition, undercurrent percussion.
I don't know about this landscape, the chill from the tower and the damned children! Dang! I might stay home instead of wandering out with the lost children.
I like the end, we drift into noise and confusion, fitting.
@elesimo Feb 2022
Oh wow, this is weird in such a great way! It's really interesting when vocals are added early. How did @midwayfair played bass and drums? The shouty vocals are really cool, and this is such a great song! Congrats every one!
